Was klebt da eigentlich an unseren Schiffen und warum ist das ein Problem? Muscheln, Algen und andere kleine Meerestiere haften sich oft an Schiffsrümpfe. Das nennt man #Biofouling. Klingt erstmal harmlos, hat aber große Folgen: 🚢 Schiffe verbrauchen mehr Treibstoff 🌍 Es entstehen mehr CO₂-Emissionen 🐟 Manche dieser Organismen reisen ungewollt um die Welt und bringen das Gleichgewicht in unseren Meeren durcheinander Das kann auch Fischbestände bedrohen und damit die Arbeit der Fischereibetriebe, die nachhaltig arbeiten wollen. Com o passar do tempo, algas, cracas e vários pequenos organismos marinhos acabam se fixando na parte externa do navio. Apesar de parecerem insignificantes, eles aumentam o atrito com a água, fazendo a embarcação gastar mais combustível e perder eficiência na navegação. Além disso, esse acúmulo pode acelerar o desgaste do metal do casco e ainda contribuir para o transporte de espécies invasoras entre diferentes regiões do oceano. Por isso, a raspagem e limpeza do casco são importantes: elas ajudam o navio a navegar mais rápido, economizar combustível e também reduzem impactos negativos no meio ambiente marinho. #curiosidades #dicasuteis

It’s a relief to see she’s still surviving despite a decade + of human impact: A broken jaw, an incorrectly attached SAT tag that’s broken, biofouling, mangling her fin, creating drag, and continually getting caught on nets and fishing line threatening to end her life. Words by @oceanramsey Over the years @juansharks and I have removed countless amounts of fishing gear off of Roxy and we’ve seen her time and time again emaciated and seemingly desperate from entanglement, but she’s a survivor, and it brings me a tremendous amount of joy to introduce her to people through @oneoceandiving and see their lives, minds, and perspectives forever shift. Sharks and marine life swim through a gauntlet of human impact daily, and some, like Roxy here, suffer from those impacts for the rest of their lives.
