This reel shows a small part of how I built the brand identity for @afirstbite The process involved a lot of experimenting with fonts, colors, layouts and illustrations until everything started to feel aligned with the story behind the brand. Branding is rarely instant. It is a lot of testing, reworking and second guessing before things finally click. For this project, the goal was to create something that feels warm, nostalgic and personal, inspired by handmade desserts and quiet storytelling. The problem isn’t “bad clients”, it’s unclear direction. If you’ve ever had a client say “this isn’t what I pictured” after you’ve done hours of design work it probably started at the moodboard stage. Figuring out how to communicate our creative ideas so our clients can see what’s in our mind before we begin the design will save hours of time and creative energy If my moodboard is just aesthetic but not communicating anything, it ends up leaving too much up to interpretation which leads to the client being unable to see my vision Moodboards are about explaining how you plan to translate the brand’s personality into something visual so your client can say “YES, I see it let’s do it.” It takes a little extra time and research, but it means we can then go into the design phase and the client knows what to expect. Getting this stage right has been the key to getting my projects signed off first time with no amends, or just a few tweaks to make it perfect. Moodboards are the first visual interpretation of the brand’s brain. Make it good! #branddesign #branding #branddesigner #graphicdesigner #moodboards

Minimal brand color palettes looks clean…but often feel flat. While the repetition of a main color is proven to increase brand recognition - that doesn’t mean there can’t be some supporting colors present. You typically see large brands lean into the single color motif, so it’s natural to want to copy what the big boys are doing. Their goal is to have you recall the color as an iconic visual element. Back when I worked in advertising - I worked with a lot of single color palettes. The amount of reds and blues I looked at…oh man 😖 Does it help you recognize the brand….Yes. Is it boring and flat….yawn…YES. It can be effective, but it comes at a visual cost. So is there a happy medium we can strike? You better believe it! A good rule of thumb is to have 1-2 primary colors that you use a majority of the time and always for high level assets. Then have 3-5 complimentary colors that can be used to create more substance when creating brand applications further down the funnel. Take a look at what Burger King does. They’re a great example of this structure 🫡 Every brand is different and these are just loose guides, so understand the emotions the visual system is trying to convey and build the color palette around that 🤘 How many colors on average are you building your brands with? #branding #logodesigner #branddesign #designprocess #colorpalette
