There might be more, but those are all the ones Dallas receives. Especially in younger years, there is a lot of therapy. Since the brain has more plasticity and bodies are growing fast it’s important to receive therapy services during this time. ✨If you want to know more facts about CP for Cerebral Palsy Awareness month, be sure to FOLLOW! March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month, and it’s a cause that is very close to my heart because it’s a part of my everyday life. I started sharing my story 4 years ago because awareness replaces curiosity or discomfort with understanding. When we talk openly about our experiences, we turn a "stare" into a connection and an "obstacle" into an opportunity for kindness and inclusion. 💚 There are over 17 million people worldwide living with CP. 🌎Cerebral Palsy affects everyone differently—no two journeys are the same, and every one of those stories deserves to be heard. 🌈 The world wasn't always built with me in mind, but with a little more understanding, we can make it a place where everyone belongs🫶 I'd love to hear from you: Before today, did you know that March was CP Awareness Month, or is this your first time hearing about it? Whats it like having a disability? Having Cerebral Palsy has its peaks and troughs, on one hand, chronic pain everyday is a constant struggle and your body responds to you differently depending on your fatigue, stress, temperature, tension etc. and some days you just want it to stop, plus it’s all the tasks that look so simple that can so difficult. BUT….. 💚 Gait analysis time 💚 Happy Sunday everyone 😃. So on Thursday I had to go to Alderhey for Gait analysis! It was a super long appointment- involving taking range of movement measurements, testing my strength, checking my spine, taking photos of my feet and AFOs. Then after all of that lots of walking - in AFOs, out of AFOs then I had to be covered in sensors and walk some more. This will give an in depth look into how I walk, my weakness etc. Mummy is also hopeful this will help get a plan in place for my calf contractures. As you can see out of AFOs I don’t have the range of movement to get my feet flat 🫣 this is holding me back with being able to progress out of AFOs. I’m not able to be as functional out of AFOs as a result. I was super good at the appointment and left with 3 superhero stickers which made me very happy! Have a great day everyone! Non Verbal Communication 1 in 4 children with cerebral palsy are non verbal. However, that does not mean they don’t have anything to say, or are incapable of understanding what you say to them. March is cerebral palsy awareness month and this is how Isla communicates… Learning cause and effect is the foundation for Isla’s communication. We also give Isla lots of opportunities to verbally communicate. When she does make a noise we reply with the nearest word to what she said. Eventually we hope at the very least Isla will be able to use eye gaze to communicate, build sentences with her eyes, decide what she wants to do etc. However, we haven’t given up on Isla one day saying her first word.
