For years, I thought I was doing “everything right” in the gym… but my body never really changed. Ever. I was consistent, strong(ish)- but literally no progression. And honestly, I always looked sort of “soft” and I didn’t want to look that way any longer. 3 tweaks changed that: 1. LIFTING FOR EGO Sure, I could squat 140+ pounds, but I was squatting way too heavy before I was ready and it showed. If your reps are incomplete half reps and your form is a hot mess, all you’re doing is building your ego instead of muscle. INSTEAD: drop the weight. Form over weight ALWAYS. Slow down and aim for full range reps that actually target the appropriate muscles. 2. TRAINING LIKE IT’S A CARDIO DAY Sweaty doesn’t mean it’s better and burning a ton of calories doesn’t make it more effective. I did multiple sets with very little rest, added in plyometrics & sprints (because calorie count, right?) doing 20+ reps- it sure felt tough… but it wasn’t helping me build strength. INSTEAD: lift HEAVY. Muscles need progressive overload, not high intensity reps. Find a challenging 6-8 reps, rest for a MINIMUM of 60 seconds between sets and focus on the quality of your reps. 3. FLYING THROUGH REPS You should never be bouncing through reps as quickly as possible. I was finishing 6 reps in 10 seconds with zero challenge & I was never seeing the results either. My face literally never changed 😆 INSTEAD: Slow. It. Down. Train with intention and try adding a 3 second tempo to the eccentric part of the rep. Add isometric pauses… your muscles will scream- in the best way possible 🫶🏻 And one more- if you’re still doing cardio on every single “strength” day, it’s time to separate the two to maximize the benefits of each workout. Cardio can interfere with the physiological adaptations that occur during strength training, reducing strength gains and muscle growth. It never has to be major changes all at once. Small tweaks lead to big changes when it comes to muscle growth and strength. You simply have to know what to look for and how to implement them 👌🏻 #strength #weightlifting #fatloss #muscle #fitness
