TODriving into Coeur d’Alene used to feel different.
There were all these big beautiful pine trees down the center divide and when you saw them you knew you were home. 🤍
Now they’re gone, and I understand why.
North Idaho has grown quickly, and Coeur d’Alene is seeing more people moving in, more daily traffic, and more pressure on roads that were never built for this volume.
With population growth in Kootenai County, infrastructure has to catch up.
Wider roads, safer commutes, better traffic flow, fewer accidents. Those things matter.
Still, it’s okay to feel a little sad watching familiar parts of North Idaho change.
The trees, the drive, the feeling of arriving somewhere quieter.
Growth brings opportunity, but it also brings change and sometimes both can exist at the same time.
I think two things can be true at once.
We can need better infrastructure in Coeur d’Alene and still miss what used to be here.
