HOCohesion and friction are both forces that influence how materials behave, but they act in very different ways. Friction, on the other hand, is a force that resists motion when two surfaces come into contact and move against each other. It arises due to surface roughness and microscopic interactions between different materials. Friction is essential in everyday life—it allows us to walk without slipping, write with a pen, and stop vehicles using brakes—but it also causes energy loss in the form of heat. Unlike cohesion, which acts within a material, friction acts between two different surfaces and mainly affects motion and energy transfer.
