I was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer at 31. Colon cancer in young adults is rising, and many people don’t recognize the symptoms early enough. Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing my journey openly; the symptoms, surgeries, treatment, and the perspective helping me move through it. If you or someone you love is going through something similar, know that you’re not alone. Awareness matters. #coloncancer #coloncancerawareness #stage4cancer #youngcancerpatient #cancerjourney

➡️Comment HEAL to learn what we did step by step to beat stage 4 colon cancer. Getting a cancer diagnosis is overwhelming to say the least. You are inundated with info and pushed to make quick life altering decisions. But now that Jake is over 3 years cancer free from stage 4 colon cancer- we have time to reflect on things we have learned along the way. Here are 3 thoughts that often come up: 💪1. There is no shortcut to health. Healthful living is what leads to health. And, yes, it takes some work. We can’t take a pill, a supplement, or a treatment and expect it to “fix us.” We have to be involved. I always get nervous when I hear a cancer patient say they are looking for a “cure.” The real long term cure and power lies in our day to day living- what we eat, drink, where we spend time (& with who), what we think, how we handle stress, etc. It all matters regardless of what else we use to help. ❌2. I’m sorry - but there is no amount of alcohol that is good for you. I’m shocked that there are practitioners who will still not come right out and say this. (I suspect it’s because they themselves don’t want to give it up?) But if you are actively trying to get rid of cancer then it’s wise to give it up as it’s adding to your toxin load and causing damage. Alcohol is a leading cause of cancer so, it’s really a no brainer. Can you have a drink here or there with active cancer and be ok? Maybe? I can’t predict. But if you want to give yourself the best chance - why would you? 🩺3. Oncologists are not all knowing. We have to recognize that they went to a school that taught them how to use chemo, radiation and surgery (and now immunotherapy) to help cancer. But, their school doesn’t have ALL the answers (clearly) and just because it wasn’t something THEY learned doesn’t mean YOU shouldn’t. I’m not telling you not to listen to your oncologist or to use oncology. We used oncology ourselves on our journey. But please know there are other approaches to cancer that also are legitimate and have value. You are allowed to incorporate whatever approaches feel right for YOU. #coloncancersurvivor #cancersurvivor #stage4cancer #coloncancer #stage4coloncancer

“On July 31, 2025, I went to the emergency room with severe abdominal pain and unable to pass gas or stool. I thought I may have just ate something bad. Not once did I think “this could be cancer,” as I was 30 years old at the time of diagnosis. My world flipped upside down when I was told I had not only colon cancer, but stage IVC. Thinking back on it now, I had some blood in my stool for about a year before diagnosis. That was the only symptom I had. I wish I had known more about symptoms of colon cancer so that I could have gotten checked sooner. I am doing well. The chemotherapy was rough, but currently, my scans are NED. Next is CRS/HIPEC, a major surgery to remove any cancer in the peritoneum. I hope sharing my story helps to spread awareness, especially to young people. Advocate for yourselves and keep the hope alive!” - Wyatt Learn more about colorectal cancer symptoms 👉 https://bit.ly/CRC-Symptoms 🎥: @ alexquinn11 and @ wyatt_vs_cancer on TikTok #coloncancer #colorectalcancer #cancerawareness #colorectalcancerawareness

Most people aren’t actually afraid of the colonoscopy itself. They’re afraid of the day before — the prep. The bathroom trips. The liquid diet. The worry: “What if I don’t do it right?” “The stories I’ve heard sound awful…” “I’m scared it will be painful.” But here’s the truth I wish more people understood: A colonoscopy is one of the most powerful tools we have to prevent colon cancer — and the procedure itself is quick, painless, and often the easiest part of the whole process. It’s the prep that feels overwhelming, not the exam. And even that part? We’re getting better at it every year. Gentler prep options. Better hydration strategies. Clear instructions so you’re never guessing. Support for people with IBD, IBS, POTS, or sensitive nervous systems who need extra care. If you’ve been putting off your screening because of the prep, please hear this from a GI doctor who does this every day: You’re stronger than you think — and the peace of mind you gain is worth it. Your future self will thank you. Your family will thank you. And I will always be here to guide you through it.

Here are the 3 proteins I won’t touch these days - as a bowel cancer survivor and nutrition coach 🙅‍♀️ ☑️ Protein is essential but it’s not all the same and just because something has protein in it - doesn’t automatically make it good for you. Some protein sources actually might be actually be harmful when it comes to long term health. And with every influencer telling you to eat more protein - it’s important to remember to choose wisely 🤓 ❌ Processed meats: Ham, salami, cured meats, twiggy sticks, frankfurters. Class 1 Carcinogen with direct links to cancer (predominantly colon cancer) ❌ Protein Bars: most are ultra processed with ingredients you cannot find in your grandmas kitchen. Emulsifiers, additives, preservatives, thickeners and colours. Which are all going to interrupt your gut microbiome. ❌ Farmed fish and grain fed mass produced meat: Usually fuelled with hormones and antibiotics with unhappy animals to top it off. Add high levels of these things into your system with few nutrients. There are loads of GREAT ✅ options for protein though if you what to do and where to look 👀 🐄 grass fed and 🐓 free range meats, plant based proteins like legumes, beans 🫘 and lentils, oats, wild caught fish 🎣 and many more. If your dentist only checks for cavities, they’re missing something your gastroenterologist would want to know about. A 2024 meta-analysis of 16.6 million people found that gum disease is associated with a 21% increased risk of colorectal cancer — consistent across 19 studies. And we’re starting to understand why. An oral bacterium called Fusobacterium nucleatum, a primary driver of gum disease, has been found living inside colorectal tumors in approximately 50% of cases studied. Researchers believe it travels from the mouth through the stomach to colonize the lower gut. Your mouth may be the first place this shows up: 1. Bleeding gums — chronic bacterial inflammation now linked to colorectal cancer risk. Not just a dental problem. 2. Persistent bad breath — may signal a bacterial burden that goes well beyond your mouth. 3. Gums that stay inflamed no matter how well you brush — sustained inflammation is the mechanism researchers believe drives the connection. 4. Receding gums — years of microbial imbalance means years of elevated pathogenic bacterial exposure. 5. Heavy tartar buildup — a fortress that protects harmful bacteria from your immune system. 6. A history of aggressive gum disease — if you’ve lost teeth to periodontitis, your systemic exposure has been elevated for years. 7. Any of the above and you’re overdue for a colonoscopy — colon cancer is now the #1 cancer killer in men under 50. This screening conversation needs to happen. The mouth is the beginning of the digestive tract. What lives there doesn’t always stay there. Save this and send it to someone overdue for a colonoscopy. 👉 Follow for more secrets I’ve learned from 40 years as a dentist.

Colorectal cancer cases are rising among people under 50. While cancer can happen to anyone — and the cause is often unknown — some studies have linked ultra-processed foods, sugary drinks, red and processed meats, alcohol and TV watching to a higher risk of early-onset colon cancer. What does that mean for your day-to-day life? Dr. Trisha Pasricha (@trishapasrichamd), a physician at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and The Washington Post’s Ask a Doctor columnist, walks through five surprising risk factors linked to early-onset colon cancer.
