Colonel Sanders (1890–1980), born Harland David Sanders, was an American entrepreneur who built one of the world’s most famous fast-food brands. After working many jobs—including farmhand, firefighter, and gas station operator—he began selling fried chicken at a roadside restaurant in Kentucky during the 1930s. He developed his famous 11 herbs and spices recipe and perfected pressure frying, which made his chicken faster to prepare and consistently flavorful. After his restaurant failed in his 60s, Sanders traveled across the United States franchising his recipe, leading to the creation of KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) in 1952.
