Nederlandse tekst hieronder🇳🇱⬇️ For a year, Chenelva and Sheneeva were locked away against their will. Because others decided what they could and could not do. Today, they once again stand strong in front of future caregivers, sharing their story to raise awareness that people with disabilities are more than their disability. Through our guest lessons, we reveal what too often remains hidden: the person behind the disability, with a voice that deserves to be heard. From a closed institution to the classroom. From powerless to powerful. Together, we create awareness, change, and humanity. Listen. Learn. Share. Luister. Leer. Deel. #chenelvaensheneeva #nederland #viral #conjoinedtwins #zorgintensiefkind

Follow mee friends?...........The video captures the Netherlands national team standing in line for the anthem. In front of each player is a child mascot. The Mascots: Several children in front of the players have different physical disabilities or conditions. The “Mistake”: The camera pans across the team, showing the players and children. When it reaches De Jong, he is seen with a wide, bright smile while looking at the child in front of him. The Contrast: The humor in the video—reflected in the caption “De Jong and I are going to hell 😭”—comes from the contrast between the serious, emotional atmosphere of the anthem and De Jong’s unexpectedly joyful expression while standing behind a child with a visible disability. Key Highlights The Interaction: De Jong’s smile appears to be a genuine, friendly reaction to the child, but the way the video is edited (zooming in on his face) makes it look humorously “out of place.” Viral Appeal: The video uses a popular comedic trope where a wholesome interaction is re-contextualized as something “inappropriate” or dark for laughs. Atmosphere: Despite the “dark humor” caption, the scene is actually quite heartwarming, showing the team’s inclusive mascot program. Cultural Context In the world of internet memes, “going to hell” is a common phrase used when someone finds humor in a situation involving sensitive topics. It’s rarely meant maliciously; instead, it highlights the irony of the timing or the facial expressions captured on camera.

This month is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. People with developmental disabilities face an unemployment rate of nearly 85% and that is absolutely unacceptable. That’s why we started our social enterprises, Mychal’s Café and Mychal’s Print Shop: to help close that gap and show just how amazing and capable our community truly is! #developmentaldisabilities #employment #autismacceptance #downsyndromeacceptance

In the United States, service dogs are legally protected by federal law under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This means a trained service dog can enter airplanes, hospitals, schools, restaurants, workplaces, and public spaces — not as a pet, but as medical support. What makes this powerful is that in many countries, service dogs do not have these protections. In the U.S., the law recognizes that a dog can be: A mobility aid A seizure alert system A PTSD support partner for veterans A life-saving medical companion These dogs aren’t just “allowed” — they are protected, and denying access is a civil rights violation. This is why America is home to some of the world’s most advanced: Guide dog programs Veteran service dog initiatives Therapy & emotional support training systems For millions of Americans, a dog isn’t just a pet — it’s independence, safety, and dignity.

Doing good feels good During a basketball game in Zeeland, Michigan, blind high school student Jules Hoogland got the chance to take a free throw as part of the Unified Sports program, which brings students with and without disabilities together. The crowd went silent so she could hear a soft tap on the backboard — her sound cue to aim. When the ball swished through the net, the gym exploded with cheers, turning the moment into a powerful celebration of courage, inclusion, and unity. 📸: MLive

😭😭🥀🥀 Karate competitions for athletes with disabilities are commonly organized under Para-Karate, a discipline officially recognized by the World Karate Federation (WKF). These events allow athletes with physical disabilities, visual impairments, or intellectual challenges to compete in a structured and fair environment. Rather than focusing on full-contact sparring, most Para-Karate events highlight kata — choreographed forms that emphasize balance, precision, technique, and control. What makes Para-Karate especially powerful is the message behind it. The purpose goes far beyond winning medals; it’s about building confidence, learning self-defense, and showing that strength can exist in many different forms. The athletes competing in these events display remarkable determination, skill, and spirit, proving that karate is as much about mindset and discipline as it is about physical ability. As the sport continues to expand internationally, Para-Karate is gaining recognition at major championships around the world, giving more athletes the opportunity to showcase resilience and inspire others through their dedication. After all these years…it still doesn’t make sense to me. Yes I get that not all disabilities are visible - but the one the one that needs the disabled toilet the most, can’t even put stuff in the bins! It’s a vicious cycle. You wash your hands as they’re dirty, try put rubbish in bin, need to touch the bin to open it, hands are dirty from touching bin, repeat from step one! 🔁 How did this pass design meetings though. “We need bins for the toilets” “who uses them” “mainly people in wheelchairs” “ok cool, add the pedalled bins” … This is what I mean by existing in a world that isn’t designed with your basic needs in mind 💭 #disabledtoilets #makeitmakesense #designfail
#Disabilities Reel by @thepastdiary_ - Katherine and Nerissa Bowes-Lyon were first cousins of Queen Elizabeth II because their father, John Herbert Bowes-Lyon, was the brother of the Queen

@thepastdiary_
Katherine and Nerissa Bowes-Lyon were first cousins of Queen Elizabeth II because their father, John Herbert Bowes-Lyon, was the brother of the Queen Mother, Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon. Born with severe developmental disabilities, Katherine (15) and Nerissa (22) were placed in a mental hospital by their parents. At first, the family visited them, but over time, the visits stopped completely. Official records falsely claimed that their deaths had occurred, keeping the public unaware of their true lives. The sisters spent most of their lives at the Royal Earlswood Mental Hospital in Surrey, a facility for individuals with developmental and mental disabilities. Caretakers described them as playful, mischievous, and capable of expressing themselves in small ways, despite being non-verbal. Life at the hospital was largely isolated, but the sisters found moments of joy and connection with those who cared for them. For decades, the sisters’ lives were kept secret to protect the royal family from scrutiny over hereditary illness and public questions about the family’s reputation. When the story finally broke in 1987, it shocked the public: Nerissa had just passed away, and Katherine was still alive. Buckingham Palace issued no comment at the time, fueling speculation that the secrecy was intentional. Their story later inspired documentaries and a storyline in Netflix’s The Crown, showing the human side of royal life hidden from the world. #QueenElizabethCousins #HiddenHistory #RoyalFamilySecrets #ForgottenLives #MentalHealthHistory
