Someone had a vision for that bison 👀 The Haunted Mansion bicycle ghosts are my FAVORITE, they look so spooky from far away but up close they are HILARIOUS. 👻 I love how Sleeping Beauty Castle retains many features of a historic castle, including the arrow slits and the crenellations on the top to aid in defense. There’s even a chapel on the right hand side (if you’re looking at the castle) with a Viollet-le-duc spire similar to the one that sits atop Notre Dame cathedral. The original architectural drawings for Pirates of the Caribbean showed cascading water out of the ruins in that final scene before you ascend the up waterfall, but for whatever reason the Imagineers decided not to include it. So that’s why you simply see a rather large “blank” space in the show to the right hand side. To the left in that area used to be the pirate balancing on top of wobbly barrels, which at one point fell on some guests so they moved it back to the ransacking of the town scene instead. Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke in Walt Disney’s MARY POPPINS (‘64). ✨ The scene which combined live action and animation was made possible through the revolutionary sodium vapor process. This photochemical technique also known as yellow screen, set the stage for green screen technology. It enabled actors to perform against a white backdrop lit with sodium vapour lights. These lights emit a unique spectrum that escapes detection by standard colour film, allowing for vibrant colours in costumes, makeup, and props. Simultaneously, two films are exposed: regular color negative film and ultra-sensitive black-and-white film, essential for creating precise mattes during post-production compositing. This results in the combining of both actors and background footage. Unlike traditional blue screen, yellow screen minimizes film generations, resulting in cleaner mattes with barely discernible lines. There was far greater flexibility with this pioneering film process. Disney went on to use it frequently throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
