Today is the @alznycc Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Central Park. Last year, in front of thousands of people, I decided to share a very personal moment with my Grandfather, the late Dr. John Stewart. Through all my times speaking infront of crowds and on TV, I’ve never had a moment hit me as hard as it did right then. šŸ’œ I held two flowers - one as a volunteer and and another as someone who had lost someone to Alzheimer’s. I spoke about how the disease had affected me - from teaching younger students when I was in high school what it was like for someone dealing with the disease, so they could better understand it and still have a relationship with family members, to then seeing its devastating effects first hand dealing with the disease, when my grandfather was diagnosed. I know so many of us have seen this awful disease affect our loved ones. There’s no sugar coating it, it’s tragic. But… I am filled with hope. Because I know how research and clinical trials are helping us get closer to a cure. If you have or had a family or friend dealing with this disease, I see you and I empathize with you. I support the work being done to help everything we can do to prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s, help those currently dealing with it to have a better today, and raise awareness to building a better future for all of us. Please consider donating anything to help assist in the ground breaking research and treatment that is being developed everyday. āž”ļø https://www.alz.org/nyc #endalz #alzheimerassociation #alzheimers

Hello Giving Tuesday are you ready to hear my most embarrassing moment? Ok, ok: top five. But although this is a story about an embarrassing moment on set, it paints a broader picture: humans need help. Counterintuitively, for humans who are caregivers of loved ones with dementia, often it goes against every instinct we have to ask for and accept help from loved ones, neighbors, our community begging to do something— anything to help. We caregivers think: ugh, it’s easier to just do it myself. Or: I don’t wanna bother anyone, we’re doing just fine. I get that. My dad called this the Superman Complex phase of his caregiving— this ended when he started having serious chest pains from stress and the kids had to intervene. Today for Giving Tuesday, consider giving to my most beloved @alzassociation who not only devotes resources to doctors working every day to find a cure, but who also provides support for caregivers who’s lives are often more at risk than the loved one they are caring for. Together, we can strengthen the fight to End Alz. Caregivers: although you are my hero, you are not superhuman. You cannot do this alone. When a neighbors asks if you need anything from the store? Say yes. You might be surprised that what they bring isn’t what you expected, but no matter what it will be physical evidence that you are not alone. Say yes. Accept help. Know I’m cheering for you. Drink water. I love you. #givingtuesdayā¤ļø #endalz

Sharing this again, as its holiday season and I miss my dad as my dad. Alzhimers hurts. When I sit with him, talk to him, hug him, kiss him, I can see he wants to say so much, but the words don’t come. He doesn’t speak much anymore, but there are hours’ worth of conversations in his eyes. This one’s for him, and for anyone else holding on to a loved one in pieces. It might make you cry — that’s okay. Walking just 3,000–5,000 steps a day may help delay cognitive decline by up to three years in people at higher risk for Alzheimer’s disease. Mass General Brigham researchers—Reisa Sperling, MD, Wai-Ying Wendy Yau, MD, and Jasmeer Chhatwal, MD, PhD—analyzed pedometer data, repeated brain scans and cognitive assessments from 296 adults aged 50-90 years old who were all cognitively unimpaired at the beginning of the study. They break down the encouraging findings and what they mean for building cognitive resilience.

Manter vĆnculos, dividir experiĆŖncias e viver pequenos momentos de lazer ajuda a preservar a saĆŗde mental e a qualidade do cuidado oferecido. World Alzheimer’s Month — tribute to caregivers Prevention is Movement Caregivers often carry a heavy burden of guilt. They may avoid going out, smiling, or meeting friends, believing they are ā€œabandoningā€ their loved one. This silent weight often leads to social isolation. Psychology shows that taking care of yourself is also taking care of others. Keeping connections, sharing experiences, and living small moments of joy helps protect mental health and sustain the quality of care. ✨ Don’t be ashamed to start again. Rebuilding your social life does not mean loving less — it means having the strength to keep caring.
