A car starter motor is a powerful electric motor designed to rotate the engine during the starting process. When you turn the ignition key or press the start button, electrical current from the battery flows to the starter solenoid. The solenoid acts like a switch and also pushes the starter’s pinion gear forward so it connects with the engine’s flywheel. Once the gears engage, the starter motor receives a large current from the battery. Inside the motor, electromagnetic coils create a strong magnetic field that spins the armature. This rotation generates high torque, which is transferred through the pinion gear to the flywheel. The flywheel then rotates the crankshaft of the engine. As the crankshaft turns, the pistons move inside the cylinders, allowing the fuel-air mixture to enter and ignite. When combustion begins, the engine starts running on its own power. At that moment, the starter motor automatically disengages from the flywheel to prevent damage.
