🔊 Sound up for this one… 🦏 A black rhino warning charge during a #FGASA NQF4 assessment, and a great example of calm, correct handling. The vehicle was stationary, the rhino approached us, snorting and doing short rushes, typical black rhino warning behaviour when they’re unsure or trying to test boundaries. When he got a bit too close, the guide simply started the vehicle and gave a short verbal warning. That was enough, the rhino got the message and moved off once he realised he couldn’t bully the vehicle. Good guiding is not about bravado, it’s about reading behaviour, staying composed, and giving the animal the space and respect it deserves. What a special sighting! 🌟 #NightjarTraining #SafariLife #WildlifeBehaviour #Rhino

WARNING! Don't try catch( and especially don't try kill) snakes you are not 100% certain they are nonvenomous. Snakes cannot be identified by colour. You need to see their head clearly to make a proper identification. I have a BSc in Zoology, and my FGASA level 1 and I still won't try handle a snake if I can't see their head. Most bites happen while people are trying to kill snakes.. Call a snake catcher if you have a snake somewhere you would like them removed. Remember they are not out to get you, they are trying to get away from you! No matter the species.. The stories about Black Mambas being aggressive is utter nonsense. They will only attack when threatened. The reason for this snake striking is because I had to move it. While we are on the topic of snake related myths.. Puff Adders are not territorial.. And there is not a single snake repellant.. If you are buying snake repellant or using something like Jeyes Fluid.. I have a bridge I would like to sell you.. Catching a ride on Africas most dangerous - now this might be a little bit comical. However there is something larger at play here. Cattle Egrets - the bird sitting on the back of this buffalo - are known to follow large herbivores around just like this herd of buffalo and the reason for this is - food. Nature just has the most amazing way to make things work. This Egret follows this herd of buffalo around as they move and turn up the soil it often exposes insects, moving through the long grasslands flushes other types of insects as well and the Egrets are there ready to take advantage.
