a week ago my son was officially diagnosed with CMPA (cows milk protein allergy) - which means I had 2 choices - continue breast-feeding and pumping, but cut out all dairy and soy products, and STILL supplement primarily with formula. or.. officially end my pumping and breast-feeding journey , and do what’s best for both of us and do just formula. I still struggle some days with missing the connection of breast-feeding, and pumping. but I know it was the right choice for my son and I. I’m sure it will get easier and some days are harder than others, but knowing he’s getting what he needs brings me so much peace🤍 #fedisbest #pumpingjourney #breastfeedingjourney #cmpa #firsttimemommy

“Is formula really worse than breastmilk? Or is that just mom guilt talking?” Here’s the evidence — without the shame: • Breastmilk has immune benefits, especially in early months — but modern formula is nutritionally complete and safe • Babies can thrive on formula with normal growth, development, and bonding • Feeding method does not determine intelligence, attachment, or long-term success • A less-stressed, supported, and mentally well mom matters more than how milk is delivered • The real risk isn’t formula — it’s pressuring moms past their limits A fed baby + a supported mother = a healthy outcome. Always. Some moms will love this. Some will hate it. Agree or disagree — let’s talk. #fedisbest #newmomlife #postpartumsupport #momsoftiktok #babyfeeding

As a pediatrician & mom of 3 who has taken care of MANY kids through my career, I have found one thing to be true: whether you give human milk or formula will NOT be the difference between your child’s future success or failure. It is also not the difference between your success or failure as a parent. Know this: yes, it is true that there are many known benefits to human milk for babies. But the most critical thing for a baby is a parent who is connecting with them. It is easy to start to feel like a failure if you struggle to do what books, celebs, extended family, even your physicians tell you to do. Each of my kids received breastmilk & formula. Different kinds, for different lengths of time, for different reasons. But one thing wasn’t different? My feeding journey was not what I expected for any of them. I had the hardest time/most guilt with my first. She was diagnosed as “failure to thrive” & I became obsessive about her intake, read literature on increasing supply, power pumped, worried about whether she was spitting up too much. Worried I was failing her. You know what? She’s 10 now. And fine. What I learned from that experience has completely changed my practice as a pediatrician. I’m not going to pretend I didn’t feel guilty or obsess with my other 2 kids (I’m still Type A, after all…) but I accepted that there are a lot of factors at play when it comes to weight gain & feeding. As parents, we are not always in control of all of them. The best thing we can do is learn to pivot, adjust, do what is best for our unique situation. I get asked all the time: “BM or formula, which is better?” Even hearing a question phrased like this implies that there is a black-and-white, right-size-fits-all type of answer. That one approach is better for everyone. But no. Remember: our goal is not just a healthy baby, but also healthy SANE parents. This is more likely to help your baby thrive than the milk they get. Please share your experience below. It may help a struggling mom to feel less alone. Something we could all use ☺️ #worldbreastfeedingweek #breastmilk #formula #fedisbest #postpartumjourney #newmom #pumpingmom #ppd #ppa #fourthtrimester

In the early 1900s, formula companies figured out something big: if they could get into hospitals and into doctors’ pockets, they could get into every nursery. 🍼 So they called formula-feeding the modern way to feed your baby and they painted breastfeeding as old-fashioned. Hospitals were stocked with free cans. Doctors were courted with samples, lunches, and “education.” New moms gave birth, were separated from their babies, and those babies were given bottles of formula. Then mom went home with a “free” sample pack and formula companies who went largely unregulated pushed the message that “formula was best”. By the 1970s, these tactics of pushing formula went global. 🌍 Sales reps in crisp suits showed up in villages and cities in low-income countries, handing out formula and telling mothers it was better than their own milk. They didn’t mention that if they used unsafe water it could kill their babies. They didn’t mention what would happen when the free samples ran out. Moms began “thinning out” formula to make it go further. Babies got sick and many 💀 The scandal grew so big it sparked a worldwide boycott and pushed the WHO to create a Code in 1981 to try to stop the most aggressive marketing. And yet… the ads never really stopped. They just changed their messaging. And an entire generation had already decided that it was better to formula feed… Breastfeeding rates plummeted and we are left having to un-learn what the generations before us forgot: that breastmilk is biologically best for our babies. Is formula convenient? Yes. Are some mothers left with no choice after trying to breastfeed? Yes. Are many workplaces not set up to support new breastfeeding moms? Also yes. But that still doesn’t change the biological fact, that breastmilk is best and SHOULD be fought for!!🤍 #formulafeeding #formulahistory #fedisbest #breastisbest #breastfeedingmom

One of my biggest fears when we started combo-feeding was this! Will she bond less with me? Will formula somehow replace the closeness breastfeeding gives? I don’t know why we’re made to believe that only one type of feeding creates a deeper connection. Because the truth is, looking back, I bonded with Dhwani in ways that had nothing to do with how she was fed. In the sleepy cuddles after a 2am feed. In the way she held my finger with her tiny hand. In the moments she looked at me like I was her whole world. In the giggles, bath times, contact naps, silly songs and diaper disasters. Bonding wasn’t tied to breastfeeding. Bonding came from being her safe space. So if you’re switching between methods, or feeling guilty about introducing formula, or worried that the “bond won’t be the same”… Please know - your baby doesn’t measure their love for you by ounces or feeding techniques. They just know you. They know your touch, your voice, your smell, your presence. That’s the bond. That’s the real connection. No feeding method can take that away. ♥️ Share this with all mamas that are going though this phase ♥️♥️ #combofeedingmama #combofeeding #formulafedbaby #fedisbest #lowbirthweight #lowbirthweightbaby
