Field trips can be as simple as trying a new park for our homeschool family. Often, we will plan our bigger field trips based on a unit study and tie it into what we’ve learned. Heavy on Benjamin Franklin’s theory… “Tell me and I’ll forget. Teach me and I’ll remember. Involve me and I’ll learn.” No matter how small or how big of a field trip we are going on, we always learn some history about the location before we set out. Some of our favorite field trips ⬇️ Aquarium Zoo Museums Reptile Centers Memorials Police Department Fire Department Local Children’s Theatre Veterinarian office Dairy farm Audio book while driving a scenic route Pottery Studio Pizza making at a local Pizzeria Pastry making at a local bakery Farmer’s market Symphony performances Nature Centers Gardens Orchards Bird Sanctuaries National Parks Planetarium Volunteer at a soup kitchen Post office Library Ice skating Recycling center Fish Hatchery Cooking Botanical Gardens Recycling Center Nature painting Team building at the local adventure climbing park Basic carpentry skills/woodworking Fishing Bowling Miniature golf Hike to the light house Bee keeping Self defense studio Picnic lunch at the arboretum Historical re-enactment We are planning some educational weekend trips I will share next once I have them organized. If you love the hustle and bustle of learning with students, this is a fun time to visit. If you prefer a quieter, slower paced visit, we recommend visiting on a weekday afternoon. Lots of great natural history learning, anyway you slice it.
