Not all gels are made to change the entire look of the scene, some are made to refine skin tones. These gels work like subtle correctors, fine-tuning colour temperature and balance in a way that keeps skin looking natural. Two that see the most use on set are Cosmetic Peach and Cosmetic Acqua Blue. Cosmetic Acqua Blue slightly cools down overly magenta skin tones. Cosmetic Peach brings the opposite correction, countering greenish skin tones. (You can see in the example how different skin tones reacts to both filters, clearly making a difference, but as always your taste is what matters when choosing the gel) Both gels are lightly diffused, so they also soften highlights, giving a smoother texture without flattening the image. It’s one of those tools that doesn’t call attention to itself but you notice it when it’s missing.
