STOP THIS!💜 Most of the times counting calories is not worth your time and energy, here is why: Focus on food quality, not just numbers: Calorie counting often overlooks the importance of nutrient-dense foods that fuel your body properly. Stress and obsession: Constant tracking can lead to stress, anxiety or disordered eating behaviours. Inaccuracy in estimates: Food labels and apps often provide rough estimates, leading to false precision and frustration. Disconnection from hunger signals: Counting calories can make you ignore your natural hunger cues, making it harder to build a healthy relationship with food. Time-consuming: Weighing, tracking and logging every meal can take time away from enjoying life and food intuitively. At the same time, not restricting also has risks, and families can work out what works best for them.⁠ ⁠ You may hear some people say you should never restrict a child because they will have a poor relationship with food. That’s an extreme perspective that’s not backed up by evidence. Lots of children have special medical or health needs that require specific dietary needs, many families need to restrict due to their financial situation, or families may have cultural or ethical values when it comes to food. ⁠Plus, some kids won’t be able to eat a diet that meets their health needs if their parents don’t provide some boundaries.⁠ ⁠ When people say “you should never restrict or your child will have a bad relationship with food,” they are also suggesting that if you don’t restrict, your child will have a good relationship with food. There’s no research to support that either.⁠ ⁠ Rather than get caught up in arguments about whether we should or shouldn’t restrict kids, let’s think about HOW we restrict if we choose to do so. Avoid using language that can easily lead to guilt, fear, or shame. We can set limits without making them burdensome or adding a major emotional layer to eating the foods.⁠ #kidseatincolor⁠

How everyone is totally fine tracking their steps, water, sleep, even their cycle… but the second you track your food, it’s suddenly “disordered” 🙃⁣ ⁣ For me, tracking has been the opposite of restrictive. It’s given me freedom. I eat more now than I ever have. More carbs, more calories and more of the foods I used to think I “should” avoid (hi white potatoes and white rice).⁣ ⁣ I track for data, not for punishment.
