Lots of you ask how I started learning my golf swing… I basically practiced body movements only (no hitting balls) for agesss!! Did this move every day for like 5/10 mins to engrain it as I felt the golf movement was so foreign to me. Tbh it helped me coordinate my body and improve my swing faster than if perhaps I hadn’t done any body movement practice. So if you’re starting / wanting to improve your body movements, do this drill slowly for a little bit each day! It’s helped me! (Although I still need to do it as I’ve got a bit rusty haha) STARTING POSITION: 1. Feet shoulder width apart (stability) 2. Feet slightly turned out 3. Arms across chest 4. Knees slightly bent (comfortable) TAKEAWAY: 1. Chest moves round so left shoulder is pointing to where the ball would be 2. Hips turn but don’t shift or sway (think about a small circle drawn around your hips and they’re moving around your body within that circle) 3. Knees remain slightly bent (you should feel a gentle resistance in your right knee from the turn - i.e loading it up) DOWNSWING: 1. Left shoulder moves down and around 2. Knees go into a light squat position then turn as you transfer the weight from your right leg onto your left 3. Chest should end up being slightly left of target, meaning you’ve fully turned your body through your swing properly Note: movements are generally slightly exaggerated as when you hit a ball it lessens the movement naturally Disclaimer: I’m not a coach or pro, I’m just someone sharing their personal journey with you guys, and what’s worked for me, in the hope it might help you too! Ever feel like you dump speed at the top of the downswing? 🤔 One thing we look at inside Sportsbox AI is how the upper center behaves through the transition. Ideally, the upper center works closer to, or more stacked over, the pelvis as the downswing starts. We refer to this as the sway gap, and we want to see that gap decrease. That alignment helps you hold lag a split second longer and keep energy stored. If the upper body tips back too early, the club lets out and speed leaks. Yes, the body will tilt away from the target. The key is when it happens. Awareness here changes everything. #golfswing #golfbiomechanics #golftraining #speedgolf #golfinstruction
