Happiness is a 2021 South Korean thriller set in a near-future Seoul where a mysterious infectious disease begins to spread. The story follows Yoon Sae-bom, a strong and practical special agent, and Jung Yi-hyun, a righteous detective and her longtime friend. Due to housing benefits, they enter into a contract marriage and move into a newly built high-rise apartment.
Soon after they settle in, residents begin showing strange symptoms — extreme thirst and violent behavior — caused by a new virus. The government quickly quarantines the entire building, trapping wealthy penthouse owners and lower-floor residents together inside.
As fear spreads faster than the virus, the drama focuses not just on survival, but on human nature. Power struggles, selfishness, discrimination, and moral choices become central themes. While some residents show cruelty and greed, others prove loyalty and courage.
Amid the chaos, Sae-bom and Yi-hyun fight to protect each other and the innocent residents, slowly realizing their feelings run deeper than friendship.
