3 WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR HIP CARS Hip CARs, or Controlled Articular Rotations, challenge you to actively move your hip through its global range of motion while limiting compensations from neighboring joints. I've been doing hip CARs for 7 years and I'm still learning new ways to make them more strict! The more independent hip motion we have, the less we have to rely on other parts doing extra work. Here's what I'm doing: 1. Rig-Blocked Hip CAR Keep that yoga block glued to your thigh and hug that rig tight! This will prevent the opposite hip from attempting to do the work. 2. Sidelying Hip CARs This is a favorite entry-level hip CAR of mine. One cue that I find really helps folks is to maintain tension in that opposite leg by pressing it into the ground, as if you were trying to register weight on a scale underneath you. Total body irradiation helps create smoother, more controlled reps. 3. Level 2 Quadruped Hip CAR In level 2 CARs, we add an active block. Here, I block my knee out by squeezing a ball and I block my spine by keeping a yoga block on my low back. Drop the ball or block, and you learn where wants to fake for hip motion! Denn dadurch dass dieser dauerhaft gebeugt ist, wird er auf lange Sicht immer steifer und neigt zur funktionellen „Verkürzung“! ➡️ Dadurch wird allerdings unser Oberkörper ständig nach vorne gezogen, sodass der Gegenspieler (der Rückenstrecker) dies ausgleichen möchte und vermehrt Druck im Lendenwirbelbereich entsteht! DIE FOLGE: Verspannungen und Schmerzen! 👉🏼 Um dem entgegenzuwirken ist es unglaublich wichtig für einen Ausgleich zu sorgen! Diese 4️⃣ Übungen mobilisieren dabei primär die Hüfte! Jede Übung für 10-15 Wiederholungen durchführen! Hip imbalances spread movement dysfunction in all directions to keep us from falling over. When we have a weak hip, we have to adjust our feet, our spine, and even shoulders to keep from falling over. You just don’t realize it. Do you notice a difference in strength between the left and right hip on this drill? ⚖️ Most people have hip imbalances regardless of activity level (in fact, it can be worse in runners and avid walkers). And while there are a number of things that can be addressed to help create stability, the hip hike drill is a standard go-to in an effort to balance strength. ⚖️ Being able to shift into and out of each hip is critical for everyone- it happens with every step you take- which is why I love this exercise for runners or anyone who engages in repetitive hip motion. ⚖️ Use the planted leg to hike the opposite hip HIGHER. It’s common to find people leaning during the drill, or not able to keep the knee locked, or not able to keep contact with the tripod (bone behind big toe, baby toe, and heel). Keep this in mind as you practice, and remember to connect the muscle of your foot to your working glute and core- feel it as ONE piece as you shift into and out of each hip.
