Holy Saturday holds us in the quiet of waiting, much like the waiting we all experience in our own lives, suspended between pain and promise, between darkness and dawn. And then, like the first light cracking over an empty tomb on Easter Sunday morning, everything changes. The stone is rolled away. The grave is empty. Death could not hold Him. This week is not just history. It is a living invitation to each one of us to lay down what is broken, to trust in what we cannot yet see and to rise again in the unshakeable hope of resurrection. From Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday, may this Holy Week fill your heart with peace, renew your spirit with purpose and remind you that no matter how dark the Friday feels, Sunday is always coming. GOHoly Week is the most sacred seven days each year in the Catholic Church. It encompasses the crescendo of Lent, the sorrow of Good Friday, and the joy of the Easter Vigil which commences the celebration of Easter Sunday. Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, a day on which Jesus enters Jerusalem triumphantly astride a colt (Luke 19:28–40; Zech. 9:9), yet also anticipates his Passion and death because people can’t reconcile his being both the Messiah King and the Suffering Servant (Luke 18:31–34; 22:37; see Isa. 52:13—Isa. 53:12). There are many other rich traditions and key events during the week, from Jesus’s institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper on Holy Thursday to the solemn events of Good Friday, including the Stations of the Cross.

LAToday’s Gospel says, “Amen, amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” And Scripture tells us that Jesus was deeply troubled. I’m sure He was troubled not just because of what was about to happen to Him but because the pain of betrayal would come from someone close to Him, someone He loved, someone He walked with for three years😔
While I was doing Lectio Divina, I imagined Jesus sitting at the table with His disciples, sharing meals with them, while knowing that one of them would soon betray Him and the others would abandon Him. And still, Jesus chose to love❤️
After Mass, I rewatched the scene from The Chosen showing the washing of the feet of the disciples. What struck me the most is that Jesus did not skip Judas. He knelt down before him, took his feet, and washed them. The hands that created the world chose to serve the one who would soon betray Him🥺
Jesus suffered physically during His Passion but there was also a deep emotional suffering, the betrayal of Judas, the denial of Peter, and the abandonment of the others😭
I remember my spiritual director once told me, “The true test of following Jesus is not how you love Him but how you love people like Judas.” That stayed with me. Because loving Jesus is easy. But loving those who hurt us, betray us, or walk away from us, that is where the real test begins, if we choose to forgive them🥹
Christ-like love is not just loving those who are easy to love. It is choosing to forgive when revenge feels justified. It is choosing mercy when your heart is wounded. It is choosing to love even when it costs you something🫶🏻
As we approach the Triduum, may we remember that beyond our prayers, fasting, and sacrifices this Lent, we are also called to imitate Jesus. To love like Him. To forgive like Him. And to choose grace, even when it hurts🙏🏻
