Houston’s skyline may be powered by oil and gas—but its future is increasingly powered by the sun. ☀️ Over the past decade, massive solar farms have quietly spread across the farmland and prairie surrounding Houston, especially west toward Brookshire, north toward Huntsville, and south toward Wharton County. What were once cattle pastures and rice fields are now home to hundreds of thousands of solar panels generating clean electricity for the Texas grid. These utility-scale solar projects often span 1,000–3,000+ acres and can power tens of thousands of homes. Many sit strategically near major transmission lines feeding directly into Houston’s enormous energy demand. With Texas leading the nation in renewable energy growth, the Houston region has become one of the fastest-expanding solar corridors in America. From oil derricks to solar arrays, the landscape around Houston is constantly evolving—each aerial view capturing another chapter in the city’s energy story. This is what a perfect Houston afternoon looks like on one of our walking tours. ☀️ This month, we explored Turner Addition, first laid out in 1871 beyond Houston’s city limits and later transformed into a charming pocket of today’s Museum District. On this 90-minute docent-led architecture walk, we traced the neighborhood’s evolution through 20th-century residential architecture. Missed this one? @lankfordgrocery in Midtown opened in 1937! 😌 This is a pretty famous burger spot that’s been featured on the show “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives,” Food Network and many places. 📰 When I found out that it’s one of Houston’s oldest restaurants I wanted to make sure & try it out. I went with the Grim Burger that is stuffed with mac & cheese, a sunny side up egg, jalapeños, bacon and cheese 😋 The pecan pie was soo tasty!! I was also a fan of the fried onion rings, I thought the fry style was done really well. Got the peach cobbler & pecan pie to-go, because I don’t have enough stomach space 😅 Have y’all visited yet?? 📌 Lankford’s: 88 Dennis St, Houston, TX 77006 #houston #houstonfood #houstonfoodie #midtownhouston #houstoneats #htxfood #burgers #houstonhistory #texashistory

Deep beneath the streets of Houston lies a massive underground cistern built in the 1920s to store the city’s drinking water. Constructed from reinforced concrete, the structure was designed to hold millions of gallons and support the growing population at the time. Inside, hundreds of evenly spaced concrete columns rise from the floor to the ceiling, creating a striking grid pattern that resembles an underground cathedral. The design distributes the immense weight of the water above while preventing structural failure in the soft Gulf Coast soil. After decades of service, the cistern was eventually decommissioned due to a leak and changing water treatment standards. Today it stands as a preserved piece of infrastructure history, revealing how early twentieth century engineers built large scale urban water systems long before modern materials and technology. The National Museum of Funeral History is one of the best spots in Houston. Hands down. I didn’t know what to expect when I went but I was truly blown away by how big it was, how many incredibly interesting things there are, and how comprehensive it is. This museum is quite literally a delight and should be on everyone’s Houston bucket list. Have you been?
