COIt’s almost impossible to be human and to not be wound up in patterns of tension, protection, people pleasing, insecurity, overcompensation, fear, perfectionism, etc.
Whether it’s generational trauma that has psychologically and physically tightened your system (which we all have to different degrees) or the day-to-day grind of taking care of a family, working at your job, or even trying to excel at something you care a lot about, it’s inevitable that our psychological, emotional, and physical systems get wound up.
Even the people that you might look at that seem “lazy” or “do nothing” or “need to work harder” are often still filled with tension, stress, trauma, and fear. It’s just that their nervous systems’s protective pattern may express as more of a freeze response (slowing down/numbing), or a rebellion against more work.
And as a teacher who primarily works with helping people unwind their protective patterns to connect to their core Self, a pattern I’ve seen is that when people TRY to relax, or meditate, or let go, they often do it with the same patters of mind that are running their usual, working life.
E.g. The type-A personality that learns meditation might be good for their stress and immediately thinks “I’m going to be the best damn meditator there is! Nobody is going to be as peaceful as me!”
Well, now you’re just using your meditation practice to reinforce the very mechanisms of mind that are causing you to want to meditate in the first place.
So, what would it be like to really just let yourself BE. Instead of trying to focus on your breath, or be aware of your thoughts, or even to relax your body, you maybe just let yourself zone out.
If your mind wants to think, let it wander.
If your body wants to fidget, let it move.
If you start to feel angry, or sad, or grateful, let yourself feel.
The point is that there’s no agenda.
You recognize that your system has accumulated layers of protection (fight/flight/freeze/fawn) against the difficulty of life, and when you give yourself permission to STOP, those layers want to unwind.
Trying to control that process, manage it, or do it “right” will often just add more tension.

HAI spent years trying to be someone different 🥺
I spent years trying to shrink myself physically because I felt that would make me feel happier in my own skin, it didn’t 💔
I spent years feeling like I was ‘too much’ or not cool enough… whatever cool is 🤷♀️😂
After years of changing myself, I finally plucked up the courage to accept myself as I am! It was a long process, but I let myself just be me and worked on feeling comfortable with that concept 🥰
And it quite frankly made me the happiest version of myself ☺️💪🏼 it’s taken a VERY long time, and lots of ‘learning the hard way’, but I’ve realised that I actually don’t want to be anyone else other than myself.
And whether that be what other people consider as cool or not cool, it doesn’t matter… because you can take it or leave it, the most important thing is that I just be myself 🥰
So if you ever feel uncomfortable in your own skin, or feel like you don’t quite ‘fit the mould’, embrace that, because I personally think the coolest thing is seeing someone just be completely themself 🥳🤩🥰
