While actor #SamuelLJackson does not appear in #KevinSmith’s #Dogma, the actor received a very nice pay day after a young producer prematurely offered a role to the actor. #ChrisRock had been tapped to play the role of Rufus in the film but with his rising stardom at the time and landing a role in #LethalWeapon4, Rock could not fully commit to Dogma although he wanted the role really bad. With production about to begin, producers needed an answer as to if Chris Rock could join the film and when the Dogma crew couldn’t get a straight answer from anyone and even get absolutely torn to shreds by the Lethal Weapon 4 producers, they were left with panic. Kevin Smith had brought up Samuel L Jackson’s name as he was a big fan of Pulp Fiction. A producer then reached out to Sam Jackson’s people about the film but were unfortunately blindsided to find out that both Chris Rock and Sam Jackson had the same talent agent. In Hollywood you cannot offer a role to another actor unless the previous actor declines to appear in the film. This now meant Chris Rock still wanted the role and that Sam Jackson could act as if he did all along just to get an easy pay day. Miramax ended up writing a check to what Kevin Smith said was likely over $100k due to the mishap.
