KNThe number-one question I get asked is also the question I’ve never publicly answered.
“Shelley, how do you decide who the next Knit Stars will be?”
But now, it’s a new decade for Knit Stars, and I’ve decided it’s time to peel back the curtain! So over the next few days, I’m going to tell you exactly why and how I asked each Star to join our 2026 cohort.
So let’s start with Debbie Bliss. Why did I choose her?
Well for starters, Debbie Bliss is an absolute legend in the yarn world.
When I first started knitting, I only knit Debbie Bliss patterns.
When I made piles of baby sweaters for my 3 kids, they were all Debbie Bliss patterns.
And when I opened my first yarn shop, the one line I knew I had to carry was yep, Debbie Bliss.
So last fall, when I was chatting with my friend Kay Gardiner about my vision for the second decade of Knit Stars, she casually mentioned, “What about Debbie Bliss?”...
She might as well have said, “What about Oprah?” 😅
Let me tell you, I was so nervous before getting on my first zoom call with Debbie…
But guess what… Debbie was even more nervous than I was! She told me later, she was having a huge case of imposter syndrome…until I pulled out those baby sweaters.
She was so touched to see her old designs, she finally let out a deep breath and settled into our conversation.
So, after four decades of fan-girling over her, I’m thrilled to announce that Debbie Bliss will be one of our 10 Stars for Knit Stars: Your Season of Genius. ✨
