💥 STOP Stretching Your Sciatica! ❌ If you have sciatica, then you probably have that tight burning down the back of your leg But the problem is not in your leg, it stems from the low back! So the biggest mistake you can make is continually stretching the leg, hoping it gets better Because a sensitive nerve does not want to be stretched, and this can prevent you from healing! So how do you fix this without stretching with the pain is? 🔑 The key here is to address sciatica at the root, which is in the low back! It’s usually because load and movement have narrowed around the pelvis. Research shows that reduced hip hinge ability and asymmetrical pelvic loading increase strain around the lumbopelvic region—often felt as SI-type pain or stiffness (O’Sullivan et al., 2018; Reiman et al., 2023). What this position does: * Opens the hips into abduction and flexion * Encourages a controlled hip hinge instead of spinal collapse * Reduces protective muscle tone around the pelvis * Improves load sharing between hips, SI region, and lumbar spine Why the breathing matters: Slow exhalation reduces muscle guarding via the nervous system, often allowing movement to return before pain fully changes (Behm et al., 2022). How to try it: * Sit with legs in a gentle V * Prop one leg slightly higher * Hinge forward from the hips * Reach hands toward the floor * Take 3 slow breaths Stop before pain. No forcing. The real issue: If your back keeps feeling jammed, it’s often because it’s doing a job your hips should be sharing. This isn’t a treatment for everything.
