Sound on🔊This is a real-time motion-capture performance from 2018😱🕹️Powerlong Art Centre, Hangzhou 👉watch full recording :https://vimeo.com/1127493074?fl=pl&fe=sh It was my first time using OptiTrack for a live mocap show. The venue and equipment were supported by my PhD Professor Yao Dajun’s team,❤️‍🔥and the performance system was developed by @metaobjects based on my own system design. The onstage avatars came from my 2017 virtual-religion project Electromagnetic Brainology—four deities of the nervous system (Earth | Water | Fire | Wind) were “embodied” live, uniting body, music, and image.🫧⚡️🫧 This performance was an early attempt to bring together my imagination of neuro–sensorimotor relations, ritual choreography, and the liveness of game engines into a single system. It has now been eight years since I began creating live mocap performances. I entered this field in 2017 with game engines and self-developed control structures; in 2018 (Hangzhou) I realized my first real-time show with OptiTrack; and in subsequent projects I iterated across contexts using Xsens/Noitom systems. This marks the work’s first presentation in a U.S. museum. The work follows an androgynous protagonist, Material World Knight, through distinct episodes that move between conflict, transformation, and renewal, echoing samsara, the ceaseless cycle of birth, death, and rebirth across different planes of existence. The work brings together Buddhist cosmology with visual strategies drawn from video games, anime, and science fiction, reflecting Lu Yang’s ongoing interest in multiplicity, embodiment, and perceptual change. First time here, the food is actually decent. Ordered Cauliflower Stir Fried with Pork, Crispy Pork Lard with Dried Chilli (nice, though a bit oily), pork knuckle (very tender), cold dish - century egg with ladies finger (not bad, vinegary, garlicky and quite spicy, good to go with hot steamed rice. Can ask for non spicy version) Will definitely want to come back and try out more dishes next time. Full menu will be posted on my Facebook.
