Take a listen to this clip from my time on the Coleman Show… One of the biggest things I’m hearing from our community is this: People want transparency. People want accountability. People want answers. And they should. Every dollar matters—and you deserve to know where it’s going, how it’s being spent, and why it matters. That means: • Clear, easy-to-understand reporting • Open communication • No decisions happening behind closed doors When government is transparent, trust grows. And when trust grows, our community gets stronger. After you listen, I’d love to hear from you—what does transparency mean to you? #hellemnformayor #LeadershipThatListens #becauseitstime #vote2026 #wilsoncountystrong #wilsoncountytn #communityfìrst #localgovernment #LetsTalk #accountability #transparency. .

Last October, I had the pleasure of joining the Politicking Podcast to talk about civic engagement, community accountability, and why more millennials need to be involved in the voting process. The podcast is hosted by a brilliant civic voice who also serves as a contributor to Roland Martin Unfiltered, and the conversation really dug into the realities many of our communities are facing right now. One question that came up was about code enforcement and how we maintain standards in our neighborhoods while holding people accountable. My answer was simple: I stay outside. I’m talking to people. I’m reporting issues. I’m documenting what’s happening in real time. One thing I’ve learned from some of the old-school political wisdom is this: the squeaky wheel gets the oil. Right now, many municipalities across the country — not just here in North County or the St. Louis region — are understaffed and underfunded. Departments are doing the best they can with limited people and limited resources. In our own city, the Public Works department has at times been operating with just two workers serving nearly 10,000 residents. That means the person who is showing up, advocating, and shining a light on issues is the one who helps move the needle forward. That’s the role I’m prepared to play. Not just as a mouthpiece to hold systems accountable, but to do it with respect, collaboration, and a commitment to solutions. Because the truth is: Our challenges don’t stop at ward lines. They don’t stop at municipal borders. These issues stretch across North County and the entire St. Louis region. That’s why I don’t “stay in my lane.” I stay outside. Building relationships. Seeking resources. Collaborating across communities. And speaking up for those who too often feel left behind. Because when we work together, we move further — and our communities deserve nothing less.

In this episode of Chambers, Changes & Conversations, we sit down with the leadership behind Manatee County’s Sports & Leisure Department to talk about how these spaces serve far more than recreation — they serve people. We explore why parks and libraries aren’t just “nice-to-haves,” but critical public services that support physical health, mental wellness, lifelong learning, and community connection. From youth sports leagues to quiet library corners, these spaces shape daily life in ways residents may not always see.

Week Two — we successfully passed 5 bills out of committee and kept the momentum moving forward. It was great to spend the weekend back home connecting with so many in our community at local events. That’s always the best part of the job. Now I’m back in Baton Rouge and ready for Week Three at the Capitol. Stay tuned for more updates, and as always, don’t hesitate to reach out to our office to stay in touch.

New episode of Let’s Circle Back to That 🎙️ This week we’re joined by April Culwell — community builder, ideas person, and champion of gathering people together in the Tri-Cities. April serves with Leadership Tri-Cities, helps organize the Tri-Cities Water Follies, and founded the Administrative Professionals Network — but what she’s really passionate about is something deeper: Helping people show up for each other. In this conversation we talk about: ✨ Why community is the cure for loneliness ✨ The Pacific Islander concept of chenchule (social reciprocity) ✨ Why gatherings should feel easier and more joyful ✨ The future of Tri-Cities river events ✨ What volunteers actually need to stay engaged Plus we brainstorm some bold ideas for the Columbia River — floating music stages, water taxis between events… and maybe even a floating bar. April reminds us that community doesn’t have to be perfect — people just have to show up. 🎧 Listen wherever you get your podcasts. If you enjoy the episode: ⭐ Follow the show ⭐ Leave a quick rating ⭐ Share it with a friend who loves building community Thanks for listening! #circlebacktothat @womeninpodcasting
