NAIt was just a quiet Friday night when three girls sat in a parked car, waiting for their fourth friend to arrive. They were talking, laughing softly, scrolling through their phones when the missing friend finally sent a message: “I’m on my way. SCA mirror box is a special therapy tool that helps me move my left hand, which got weaker after my brain injury. It has a mirror in the middle, and I put my right hand (my stronger one) on one side, and my left hand on the other, hidden behind the mirror.
When I move my right hand, the mirror shows a reflection that looks like my left hand is moving. My brain sees that reflection and thinks, “Hey! My left hand is working!” So it starts trying to send signals to my left hand.
It kind of tricks my brain in a good way, helping it to relearn how to move the side that isn’t working properly. It’s weird at first, but after a while, it actually helps. I can feel my brain and my hand slowly waking up again.

Fantom ağrı ne biliyor musunuz, artık vücudunuzda var olmayan bir uzvun beyin tarafından hala varmış gibi algılanması fakat korkunç ve kontrol edilemez bir şekilde ağrıması, acıması veya sızlaması (ve bazen elektrik çarpmış gibi sıçratması). Fantom ağrının sebebi ve oluş mekanizması henüz açıklanabilmiş değil. Bu yüzden, tedaviye yönelik bilinen bir ilaç tedavisi de yok. Yine de o dönemde ağrıları dindirmek için, pek bir sonuç alamadığım halde aylarca ağır epilepsi ilaçları kullandırıldım, çünkü sonuçta sinir uçlarının fazla uyarılmasıyla ilgili bir hadise bu.
Ta ki fizik rehabilitasyon merkezinde bir doktor beni ayna (mirror box) tekniğiyle tanıştırana kadar.
