You won’t BELIEVE this student’s GLOWUP! 👧🏻✨ ft. MUSO Deputy Director @sherenenee composed by @penmankatrina Two years ago…there were constant tears, crossed arms, the full “I’m never coming back” speech mid-lesson. 😢 It would’ve been easy to let her stop. Instead, we worked through the bad days. ⛅️ Now? She walks on stage smiling and plays beautifully, most importantly…she ACTUALLY enjoys it. 💫 If you want to see what kids look like when they’re supported through the messy stage of learning, follow our channel! Our mission is to make music education FUN for children. 🧒🏻 #flute #flautist #fluteteacher #classicalmusic #musicteacher

School bands are student music ensembles found in elementary, middle, and high schools, where young musicians learn to play instruments, read music, and perform together as a group. These bands typically feature brass, woodwinds, and percussion, and students often begin with beginner bands before advancing into concert band, marching band, jazz band, or wind ensemble. Beyond teaching music, school bands help students develop discipline, teamwork, time management, and confidence through regular rehearsals and live performances at concerts, pep rallies, parades, and community events. Many school band programs follow educational standards supported by organizations like National Association for Music Education, which promotes the importance of music education nationwide. #band #sound #expolerpage #viralvideos #trendingreels Cresit_@spillnow

Malagasy Clapping 101 👏🏽🇲🇬 I love the concept of clapping when teaching polyrhythmic music! Malagasy culture is one of the world’s culture that mastered the art of clapping as an instrument while combining it with chants and dance. I love teaching this concept to my classes and my shows! Not only because I’m sharing my culture but as a tool for music education. In African music, polyrhythms are key! Multiple rhythms, like 4/4 and 6/8, often play together, creating that vibrant, layered groove. Multiple rhythms played at once teach listening, coordination, and community. One beat holds the ground, another dances around it. As much as we learn the theory behind it, this practice needs to be felt in the body and only then we start embracing multiple patterns as one sound!

Music education is associated with stronger brains, emotional regulation, discipline, focus. At this point, that’s not opinion. It’s proven. But here’s what no one says: Quality matters. Not all music education is the same. Not every teacher is the same. Not every program is the same. There’s a wide spectrum: different standards, intentions, and expectations. And while every musical experience has value, not every program is designed to unlock the true depth of what music can do. Music can absolutely be “just for fun,” but when education is watered down, it loses something. It loses rigor. It loses potency. And in doing so, it doesn’t fully honor the power of music or the potential within the child. Here’s what makes us different: We hold a standard of excellence for children at all ages because we believe children rise to the level of instruction they receive. Children are not incapable. In fact, they are often under-challenged. Great teaching doesn’t just create strong musicians, it shapes confident, capable young people. When we create an environment that truly honors the depth of music, we give them the opportunity to rise into their full potential, not just as musicians, but also as humans. 🎶💃 Pablo de Sarasate — Zapateado, Op. 23 No. 2 (Spanish Dance No. 6) Midori Goto — violin 🎻 | Robert McDonald — piano 🎹 • "Zapato" means shoe in Spanish. The zapateado is the Andalusian dance where the entire body obeys the feet — every strike on the wooden floor is a syllable, every silence between strikes is a breath. In 1879, Sarasate did the opposite: he lifted the feet off the ground and placed the entire dance on four violin strings. Harmonics, double stops, left-hand pizzicato — all compressed into less than four minutes. He didn't compose to move you. He composed so you couldn't look away. • Sarasate lost his mother at 11, on a train to Paris. He arrived alone, sick with cholera, unable to speak French. The Spanish consul in Bayonne took him in and funded his journey to the Conservatory. Decades later, when he died in 1908, he left behind two Stradivarii — one to the Musée de la Musique in Paris, the other to the Madrid Conservatory. George Bernard Shaw said of him that there were many composers of music for the violin, but few composers of violin music. The Zapateado is the difference between one and the other. • This video is from 1990. Midori had just turned 18 and chose the Zapateado as the encore of her Carnegie Hall debut. Four years earlier, she had made world headlines at 14 in Tanglewood. Later came the depression, the anorexia, the hospitalizations. And after that, a psychology degree from NYU, four music education organizations founded, and the title of UN Messenger of Peace. In this video, none of that existed yet. There was only an 18-year-old violinist, a 1734 Guarneri del Gesù, and a piece written to prove that the violin knows how to dance. • 👉 Follow for the best of classical music, daily in your feed. • • • #classicalmusic #violin #violinist

In Lauren Griffin’s classroom, mistakes aren’t interruptions. They’re part of the sound. When a guitar is tuned too high, they adjust and try again. When something doesn’t land, she laughs with her students and keeps going. They see her be human, and it gives them permission to do the same. And the student who struggles in one class might be the one teaching a friend a chord progression the next. That’s what modern music education can unlock. Not perfection, but possibility, and more young people seeing themselves as capable, creative, and worth hearing. 🌟

It’s been such a struggle. But it’s worth it. We are still fighting to help the younger kids have the best music education possible. No they don’t need to be professional musicians or even go to a conservatory. The lifelong impacts of learning music as a child are so valuable to a growing mind and that’s why we strive to provide that for them. After graduating from MSM Josiah was offered a full scholarship to law school and in the hand written note that the law school sent they said that they were particularly interested in him because he was a musician. Some of our kids may follow music as a career and some may not, but I’ve seen music open doors to amazing opportunities for our older kids and we hope for similar experiences for our younger kids as well.
