“Big changes in NPS that could completely change the way you retire! I have never been a fan of NPS but these changes look very positive! Let me explain, (1) The biggest draw back of NPS goes away. Earlier you could only invest a maximum of 75% in equity but now fund managers can offer 100% equity portfolios (2) The 100% equity portfolio can have upto 5% in gold, silver and other alternates as well. (3) Another big change is Early exit rules. Earlier you had to stay invested till 60, but under the new framework, you can exit after just 15 years. So let’s say, If you start at 30 and exit at 45, under the old rules you could only take 20% lump sum and the rest, 80%, had to go into annuity. Under the new rules, it’s the reverse you can take 80% lump sum and only 20% in annuity. (4) Now you can also do partial withdrawals after 3 years & also take loan against your NPS which was not possible earlier. The only problem is the cost can go up because the current TER is 0.09% but the new TER is allowed to go up until 0.30% which is 3.5 times higher Btw Tax advantage, is over & above this! Missing this simple step can make the account inactive or irregular, and later you may have to pay a penalty to restore it. For PPF, the minimum yearly deposit is ₹500. For Sukanya Samriddhi, it is ₹250 in a financial year. For NPS , the minimum yearly contribution is ₹1,000. These minimums are part of the official scheme rules. Many people open these accounts for long-term savings and then forget the yearly minimum amount. The money involved may be small, but the trouble later is unnecessary. You can invest up to 14% of your basic salary through employer contribution. But the total employer contribution to NPS + PF + superannuation should not exceed ₹7.5 lakh/year. Anything above that becomes taxable. 2. This benefit is only on your employer’s contribution. Your own NPS contribution is not deductible under the new tax regime (though it’s still tax-free on withdrawal). 3. NPS is flexible. You can structure it based on your CTC: Equal contribution by employer & employee Unequal contribution Only employee Only employer 4. Should you consider it? Usually people invest in National Pension Scheme (NPS) just to save some additional tax but as the name suggests, this scheme is to create a passive income for your retirement or we can call it Pension as well... Every such scheme has its maximum benefit if you start investing as early as possible and wait for the magic of compounding... So, in this video I have shown an example of a person who starts investing Rs. 5,000 at an age of 20 years and invests the same amount till 60 years (years of investment = 40 years)... When he turns 60 or plans to retire , he will have 3.18 cr in his NPS account considering 10% returns... Out of this corpus , one can take out max 60% as a lumpsum and from rest 40%, an annuity needs to be purchased for regular passive income... So if he takes an annuity of entire 3.18 cr(100%), considering 6% returns on annuity, he will get 1.6 lacs + as a monthly pension... And if he plans to increase his investment by 10% every year, his monthly pension would be 5.6 lacs +... Isn't it awesome... Do follow for more financial knowledge… Normal Withdrawal: - On completion of 60 years of age (if subscriber has joined NPS before 60 years of age) or after completion of 03 years (if subscriber has joined NPS after 60 years of age), subscriber can withdraw maximum 60% of the corpus as lumpsum and minimum 40% of the corpus has to be utilized for purchasing an annuity plan for receiving the pension. If the accumulated corpus is less than 5 lakhs, the entire corpus is paid as lumpsum to the subscriber. ⁠ Partial Withdrawal: After completion of 3 years subscriber can withdraw 25% of his/her own contributions for specific reasons: illness, disability, education or marriage of children, purchasing property, starting a new venture. A subscriber can partially withdraw upto a maximum of 3 times during his/her entire tenure in NPS. Premature Withdrawal: After completion of 5 years or before completion of 03 years (if subscriber joined NPS after attaining 60 years of age), subscriber can withdraw maximum 20% of the corpus as lumpsum and minimum 80% of the corpus has to be utilized for purchasing an annuity plan for receiving the pension. If the accumulated corpus is less than 2.5 lakh, the entire corpus is paid as lumpsum to the subscriber. Note: Please know all the scheme related details. It’s all thanks to the new National Pension System (NPS 3.0) and the massive rule changes that just kicked in on 15th December. Here’s the deal 👇 Under the new tax regime, your employer can contribute up to 14% of your basic salary to NPS — completely tax-free. If you’re in the 30% tax bracket, every ₹10,000 your employer puts into NPS instead of salary saves you ₹4,534 in taxes. That’s an instant 45.34% gain. Now the big update — the mandatory annuity is down from 40% to 20%, meaning you can take 80% of your corpus as a lump sum. You can also exit after 15 years, not wait till 60. Even 100% equity allocation is now allowed, plus new access to gold and silver.
