The amount of different birds in this collection is mind blowing!! Can the average *adult* now even name this many bird species?! The child who played with these was well on their way to being a naturalist at a young age..... This display is in a local museum we frequently visit for home ed trips and every visit it's a reminder that I want to raise children who are deeply connected to nature in a world that has distanced humans from it at an unprecedented and unhealthy scale. The children of our generation are offered constant screen use, AI toys 😭, violent gaming and other forms of brain rot and passive, manipulative, addictive, soul sucking entertainments that drag them from the amazing natural world they live in and ruin their imagination. Except for the ones whose parents are defaulting back to nature, open-ended toys, good books and real world play. I stopped telling my toddler to stop throwing… and redirected it instead. Throwing is a developmental need, not bad behavior. When we meet that need with a safe, intentional setup, the throwing usually decreases everywhere else. One reason I love open-ended play items like our @figgyplay play couch is that they grow with your child, today it’s a carnival-style throwing game, tomorrow it’s climbing, building, or imaginative play. One setup, so many skills. Redirection isn’t stopping the behavior. It’s giving it a safer outlet. 👉 What does your toddler love to throw right now, toys, food, or everything? 😅
