CHECK YOUR FORM - Barbell Overhead Press . The barbell OHP is one of the best exercises for building and strengthening the upper body. But it is often performed incorrectly! . Here are some common mistakes and corrections: ❌Allowing the lower back to arch - this causes you to lift the bar with your back instead of your shoulders ✅Tuck the pelvis under and squeeze the glutes and brace the core before lifting the barbell from the rack. Maintain this position throughout the lift to avoid the lower back arching. ❌Looking up - this also causes your lower back to arch ✅Keep your gaze forward and spine neutral ❌Flaring the elbows out ✅Keep the elbows tight with your forearms vertical and stacked under the wrists ❌Lifting the bar forwards or away from you ✅Ensure the bar travels in a straight line above your head and over the mid foot ❌Bending your knees or using your legs ✅Keep your hips and knees locked from start to finish.
