DPThis time of year is one that always brings fond…memories..
Getting into PT school is tough.
There about 100,000 applications submitted each year. The average cumulative GPA of those accepted is a 3.5. The average science GPA of those accepted is a 3.4. The average GRE scores of those accepted were between the 45-55% percentile.
There are about 9 applicants per seat available. NINE.
While I can sit here and say you may defy the odds, the odds are still against you if you don’t have competitive stats. There are programs that will absolutely cut you without opening your application further than GPA.
✨When going through applications you 10000% need to make sure you are meeting every programs requirements. There are some programs with ‘recommended’ requirements and those are the ones that will give you some wiggle room. NOT EVERY PROGRAM HAS THOSE.
✨You need to stand out in other ways. Not only is there a section on the application that allows you to discuss things you think the program should know (perhaps a medical issue causing a poor semester or class retake, or even a change in major), but what beyond that will show why they should accept you over a 4.0 applicant.
✨Make connections. Do you know the program you’re applying to? Have you spoken with any faculty? Have you visited or attended an information session? How have you shown interest?
✨You may not get rejected right away, you may be waitlisted, you may be accepted at the end of the application cycle. What are you going to do in the meantime while waiting for those decisions to be made?
My suggestion: never sit back & wait. Do something that will set you apart - and don’t let that be your low GPA.

LOThe guest room might be chaos, but that’s okay! As a PT student, you can’t do it all, and that’s normal. I’ve learned to let some things slide during the week and use the weekend to reset. It’s all about finding a balance that works for you—just keep going and trust you’ll figure it out!

My original plan of care wasn’t necessarily wrong HOWEVER the bigger problem was staring me right in the FACE and I didn’t know any better.
One of the best things you can do as a PT student is start to learn more about runners programming and strength and conditioning principles.
No, they will not be covered well in your program.
But it is your job to continue to grow your skillset if you want to help more people get to the root cause of their pain.
