This journey can be terrifying, especially if you don’t know anyone else who has walked this road. Here are the top/first few things I did when I discovered PANS: 🩷 Research, research, research. A few great places to start are the PANDAS Physician Network as well as the PANDAS Network. Read medical abstracts as well as books written by medical professionals. I have multiple resources that I learned a ton from linked in my ‘Books’ list in my Amazon Storefront. Knowledge is seriously power. 🩷 Get connected. Find others in your area or online who you can vent to, share your story with, bounce ideas off of, cry with… you WILL need this community. I recommend joining a PANS/PANDAS FB page for your country, as well as a specific group for your state/region. I’m a part of the P/P Families of PA group and they changed the trajectory of our journey; they were so helpful. This is where we found the contact for the doctor who diagnosed Ez. 🩷 Take vigorous notes. Record everything. I have videos of Ezra in his worst flares — I’ve had to use them to show medical personnel that I’m *not* exaggerating and that his symptoms are real. Take note of how they’re sleeping, how/what they’re eating, their mood swings, if they got sick/have allergies/seem off… all of it. It’s tedious. Date it, write times, and keep up to date. Coming prepared will serve you so well when fighting for a diagnosis. 🩷 Once you find a doctor who is literate in P/P, most of our stories began with extensive bloodwork. Check into the Cunningham Panel (out of pocket, very expensive, but will tell you exactly what your child’s triggers are.) It’s worth testing for strep/ASO titers (in bloodwork) as well as testing for Lyme. In my area at least, those are the most important tests to run. 🩷 Most importantly: TRUST YOUR GUT. You know your kid. This is why research + awareness is crucial. Check the DSM-5 for diagnostic criteria. Be ready to stand firm and push back. It’s uncomfortable, but it’s necessary. You are the best advocate for your child. They’re so lucky to have you. #panspandas #panspandasawareness #panspandasparent #medicaljourney #specialneedsmom #supportneeds

PANS/PANDAS ⬇️ The best way to understand pans/pandas is that there is an infection/virus affecting the immune system, that the body cannot quite overcome— Only the thing is, the body will never stop trying to overcome it. So as it festers deeper and deeper into the body including the brain and cns, the body is still quite literally attacking it. These are the “flares” you see, of the body attacking itself trying to overcome it. This is why so many have issues that emerged since being sick, because view it as the body simply never actually got over the sickness. There are different remedies that can be indicated to help, but simple things to consider at home that can make a HUGE difference include (not medical advice): -the cell salts Ferr Phos, Kali Mur, and Calc Phos. Ferr Phos and Kali Mur act directly on the spleen and help it function, the spleen is the largest immune organ and many of these issues come down ultimately to it not functioning optimally. -The gemmo Rosa Canina.
