The iconic Parle Products factory in Mumbai’s Vile Parle East, once the birthplace of India’s beloved Parle-G biscuits, is set to become part of history. The familiar aroma of freshly baked biscuits had already faded in mid-2016 when production stopped, and now the landmark site itself is headed for redevelopment♥️. Parle Products plans to transform its oldest manufacturing unit into a large commercial complex. Spread across 5.44 hectares (around 13.45 acres), the prime land parcel will be redeveloped with a total built-up area of over 1.9 lakh square metres. This includes space constructed under FSI norms as well as additional non-FSI development. The ambitious project is estimated to cost 73,961 crore, marking a major shift for a site that played a historic role in India’s food industry. While the factory may be gone, Parle-G’s legacy as a household name continues to live on across the country. . . . Founded in 1928 by Mohanlal Dayal, the company started as a small toffee manufacturing unit inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s Swadeshi Movement. Later, in 1938, Parle began producing biscuits — giving birth to what would become India’s most iconic brand, Parle-G. Did you know? The name Parle-G comes from Vile Parle, the very place where it all started. After 87 years of operations, this legendary factory has closed due to its aging infrastructure.
