progress, not perfection 💪 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I knew this road was going to be long but I wasn’t quite sure just HOW long it was going to be. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After I graduated undergrad, I pursued a DIY post-bacc to complete the rest of the prereq classes, bolster my GPA, and essentially reinvent myself. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Although the numbers you see aren’t the typical “med school standard”, they’re real. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I knew it was going to be hard to boost my GPA given the number of credits I have, so I told myself to focus on showing an upward trend. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Don’t obsess over the final number, strive to show improvement. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You don’t have to be the best, you just have to be good enough. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel 🙏🥰 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Website in the reel is Mappd.com !! @mappdapp ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Use my code thesaltypremed to get a free 30-day trial 🧡 #mappdpartner #premed

“You’ll be 36 when you finish.” I remember hearing that like it was supposed to scare me. Like it was too late. Like I had missed my window. But here’s the thing no one says out loud— I was going to be 36 either way. 36 with an unrealized dream… or 36 as a doctor. Time doesn’t wait for you to feel ready. It doesn’t slow down because something feels hard or long or uncertain. It passes anyway. So the real question isn’t how long will it take? It’s where do you want to be when that time passes? Because one day you’ll wake up and be that age you were once afraid of … and you’ll either be living the life you worked for or wishing you had started. There is no perfect timeline. There is only the one you choose to commit to. #medicine #residency #premed #scrubs #medicalstudent

1) Olympic-Level Athlete I have literally seen applicants who competed at the Olympics or at a national elite level in their sport. Even if it is not the Olympics, being at that high level shows insane discipline, time management, and resilience. Med schools know you cannot fake that kind of long term commitment. 2) Working with Incarcerated Populations Some applicants spent years volunteering or working inside prisons or with formerly incarcerated individuals. That kind of experience exposes you to complex social and health inequities that most premeds never see. It shows maturity, empathy, and a willingness to work with underserved communities in a very real way. 3) Chef or Catering Business Owner I have seen people who were professional chefs or started their own catering businesses before medicine. Running a food business takes leadership, customer service skills, and the ability to perform under pressure. It also makes for amazing interview stories because it is so different from the typical research assistant path. 4) Years of Industry Experience as an Engineer or Computer Scientist Some applicants worked full time in tech or engineering for years before applying. That depth of industry experience shows problem solving, teamwork, and real world accountability. It also brings a totally different perspective to medicine, especially with how important technology is becoming in healthcare. 5) Content Creator Yes, I have seen serious content creators with large platforms apply to med school. Building an audience requires communication skills, consistency, and the ability to explain complex ideas clearly. When done thoughtfully, it can show leadership and impact beyond your immediate circle. At the end of the day, do not just copy these. Unique does not automatically mean good or bad, it just helps you stand out from a sea of similar applications. These are just examples to show how creative you can be with extracurriculars. The best activities are the ones you are genuinely interested in, even if you have never heard of anyone else doing something like that before. #premed #premedstudent #premedadvice #mcat #medicalschool

🧠The brain is a delicate tissue and extremely vulnerable to mechanical trauma. Several layers of protection (the skull, the meninges, and the cerebrospinal fluid between the meninges) are present to cushion and protect it. ⚠️Even a single blow to the head can cause a concussion, intracranial bleeding, or long-term neurological damage. #wittyanatomy #drbenaduce #humanbodyfacts #premed #anatomy101

Please read before you miss out on this efficient path🙏 The traditional path to medicine feels like this: High school → college → MCAT → apply → hope. For many students, that means years of uncertainty. But there’s another route — one that starts earlier. Combined BA/MD and BS/MD programs allow students to secure their medical school seat directly out of high school. That’s how I started medical school at 18. And became a physician at 24. This wasn’t about: ❌ Family connections ❌ Thousands of volunteer hours ❌ Being “the smartest” student It was about learning the options early — and preparing intentionally. These programs are competitive. But the real disadvantage isn’t intelligence. It’s awareness. Students who don’t know this pathway exists can’t prepare for it in time. That’s why sophomore and junior year matter so much. ✨ Comment “DOCTOR” if you’re a high school student (or parent of one) who wants to explore whether a direct-entry pathway to medical school could be realistic for you and apply for mentorship. *if you don’t see a message reply it may be due to your settings so in that case DM me the word instead* #premed #futuredoctor #medicalschooladmissions #bsmd #bamd highschoolpremed acceleratemd premedjourney physicianmentor
