As you advance as a pickleball player, one of the most coveted skills you will need to acquire and master is a good reset. A good reset serves the purpose of getting you out of trouble when your opponent hits a difficult shot that you cannot return offensively. It basically gives you a chance to reset the dynamics of the point in hopes of getting a ball that you can subsequently turn into offense. The key with resets is not only practicing them, but also being intentional about making the decision to hit a reset instead of an offensive shot. The Drive → Drop → Reset combo is one of the most important patterns to master as you move into higher-level pickleball. When you’re stuck at the baseline against strong net players, trying to hit a perfect third shot drop right away can be extremely difficult — they can attack almost anything that sits up. Instead, use this sequence 👇 1️⃣ Drive first Hit a low, hard drive to apply pressure and force a weaker reply. 2️⃣ Drop the next ball When the ball lands in the mid-court, transition to a soft drop — ideally toward the middle. • Creates confusion on who takes it • Gives you the biggest margin over the net • Makes it easier to move forward 3️⃣ Reset when you arrive Once you reach the kitchen, don’t rush the attack. Slow the point down, reset the ball, and let you and your partner establish position at the line. From there, start the dink battle with intention and look for your opportunity to attack. High-level pickleball isn’t about forcing winners — it’s about building the point the right way. What part of the drive-drop-reset sequence do you struggle with most? 👇

Fix your resets with this one simple adjustment 👇 If you’re newer to pickleball, transitions from the baseline to the kitchen can feel chaotic with rushed swings, pop-ups, and balls flying long. This is something I constantly struggled with, especially under pressure. While filming with @thepickleballdojo and @nautytuan.pickleball who are  both experienced 4.0+ DUPR coaches — they helped me understand why paddle position matters depending on where you are on the court. A lot of beginners keep their paddle in a high ready position all the time. That can work at the kitchen, but as you move farther back, it actually makes things harder. High ready position (too far back) ❌ Forces rushed reactions ❌ Too much movement in the swing ❌ Inconsistent resets and pop-ups Lower ready position (as you move back) ✅ Lets out balls fly instead of forcing shots ✅ Keeps your swing compact and controlled ✅ Makes resets feel calmer and more repeatable This one change alone made my transition game feel slower, simpler, and more intentional — which is exactly what beginners need when learning how to reset and move forward. Huge thank you to @pickleballkingdom.pflugerville for letting us film and break this down on court 🙌 Full breakdown, context, and drills are up on YouTube. Best Drill to Practice Your Backhand Reset This is one of my go-to drills for building a reliable backhand reset. It trains touch, patience, and transition skills The goal isn’t to win the point. The goal is to neutralize, slow the rally down, and earn your way to the kitchen. Player A – The Feeder     1.    Start by feeding the ball to your partner’s backhand     2.    Continue hitting only to the backhand side     3.    Focus on:     •    Heavy topspin     •    Controlled pace (not max power) Key focus: You’re simulating an opponent attacking the backhand. Consistency matters more than speed—make your partner reset over and over. Player B – The Resetter (Touch & Progression)     1.    Start on the baseline     2.    Hit a soft backhand reset back into the kitchen     3.    After every successful reset, take one small step forward     4.    Aim for 5–7 quality resets before reaching the kitchen line Key focus:     •    Keep the paddle face relaxed     •    Absorb pace instead of swinging through the ball Progress only when the reset is clean. No rushing. Huge thank you to my sponsors for making this possible 🙏 : 🏓 @paddle.mania (Check out my hat) Atlanta-based pickleball shop and my go-to for paddles, shoes, gear, and everything pickleball. If you’re in the area, this spot is a must. 🏟️ @planetpickleatl One of the best pickleball facilities in Georgia. If you’re in Atlanta, Cumming, Johns Creek, or Alpharetta, you have to check it out. Top-tier courts and an unreal environment. 🥒 @warpingpoint_pickleball Absolutely loving these paddles — insane spin, serious power, and some of the best dwell time I’ve ever felt. If you’re looking to level up, Warping Point delivers.

Send this to your drilling partner 📲🎯 One of the biggest differences in advanced pickleball players is their ability to transition from a soft reset to an aggressive put-away in the same rally ⚡️🔥 This pickleball drill trains control, touch, and power all at once so you can improve your reset game and finishing ability 💪🏼 Have your partner feed you a ball Hit a controlled reset that stays low over the net When you get a higher return, step in and drive it for a clean put-away 🎯 Bonus, this drill also improves your partner’s touch, placement, and consistency on feeds so both players develop stronger all-around pickleball skills 📈🥒 Follow along for all things pickleball 📲 #pickleballrocks #pickleballtournaments #pickleballtraining

This drill builds elite hand-eye coordination for pickleball. You do not need a partner. You do not need a court. You just need a wall. Start with one ball. Volley it against the wall and keep it alive with control and rhythm. Once that feels comfortable, add a second ball. Alternate touches and stay calm as the speed increases. Why this drill works: • Improves reaction time and paddle awareness • Trains soft hands under chaos • Builds coordination for hands battles • Transfers directly to kitchen exchanges • Can be done solo anywhere The goal is not power. The goal is control under pressure. When the game speeds up, your hands do not panic because they have already seen faster. If you want to improve reflexes, feel more confident at the net, and train smarter without needing a partner, this drill belongs in your routine.

Tip of the Day: When to Attack 🏓 Want to be more aggressive without making more errors? Learn when the ball gives you the green light. • Ball is above net height • Ball is in front of your body • You’re balanced and in control If you don’t have all three, reset or dink instead. This helps you attack smarter, reduce unforced errors, and apply pressure at the right time. Quick Drill: With a partner, rally crosscourt. Only attack when the ball is above the net and in front of you — reset everything else. Take it further: Have your partner mix in high and low balls so you practice recognizing attackable vs. reset balls in real time. Challenge: Win 5 points in a row by only attacking “green light” balls. Want more tips like this? Join our group clinics or book a private session with one of our pros. Sign up on the app 📲
