BRLuca Trapanese is a single dad from Italy who became widely known after adopting a baby girl named Alba, who has Down syndrome and had been rejected by more than 20 families. Alba’s biological mother gave her up shortly after birth, and many prospective adoptive parents declined because of her condition. Lower-body strength is one of the strongest predictors of all-cause mortality. Muscle mass improves insulin sensitivity, metabolic health, and resilience.
A 2024 prospective cohort study in the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports found that reduced body flexibility was associated with poorer survival in middle-aged men and women.
✅ Better digestion:
A deep squat places the hips in full flexion and the torso in a more optimal angle for intra-abdominal pressure regulation.
That position mechanically supports easier bowel movements by aligning the recto-anal angle. This is why traditional squatting postures are associated with smoother elimination.
✅ Healthier hips:
Deep hip flexion strengthens the glutes, adductors, and deep rotators through full range.
Loading the joint in deep flexion improves cartilage nutrition through synovial fluid movement. Joints that move fully, stay functional longer.
✅ Stronger knees and ankles:
In a controlled deep squat, the knees travel forward and the ankles dorsiflex under load.
This strengthens the quadriceps, tibialis anterior, calf complex, and improves tendon capacity. Gradual exposure to load builds joint tolerance, not damage.

Falls happen when strength, balance, and reaction capacity decline. Deep squats train all three.
