Context: Undiagnosed Hairline fractured got weaker with time and fractured completely(Humerus). On 11th of feb 2026, 10 days out from my competition i broke my humerus bone taking my last bench press set at rpe 1-2 (max i would allow myself to go on bench). I was having shoulder pain at that exact spot since a couple of months and had visited 6 total physiotherapists including sports physios from Dehradun, Moradabad and even consulted with one from Canada, they even did some laser therapy on it, worked on stability, bicep tendon pain, nerve issue,inflammation, bursitis,everything but found everything was healthy but the pain persisted so stopped pressing at all, 2 months later same pain at same load, meanwhile kept going to physios and now started to go to Orthopaedic, they told me to get an MRI of Right shoulder joint which i did but shoulder came out to be healthy, nobody checked the humerus bone:( , Talked to chatgpt too for hours, went to Neurologist in case i had a nerve issue but NCV test showed all good, after that i was advised to slowly return to pressing to only loads that didnt hurt, that i did, keeping myself in 30-60% range of my max, and at those weights i didnt experience any pain either, that fay my topset was only 110 kg, last bench session 10 days out of competition, i didnt risk going heavy since i did not want to risk injury(i was thinking more of a tendon issue) but here we are:( The only thing i was sad about was that in total i went to a total of 15-20 people including physiotherapists, doctors, senior lifters but nobody was able to even mistakenly advice me to get an X-ray and this thing would have healed in no time without a surgery. Heck even disappointed that how come i didnt think of it myself. Well what happened, happened . My arm finally gave up and broke and it did pain but nothing i cant handle, i will figure it out, i have handled way worse days, I also was putting in good efforts for my nationals and knew i could do some damage, finally after 2022 i felt like my hardwork is going to pay but so be it. Cheeky little clean complex from the @peak360fitness class! Was meant to be RPE 7, which I wouldn’t have thought would be 315, but I was on my worst behavior and it felt pretttttttttty solid. If that were true to being 70% that would mean my max power clean was 405, which it surely is not lol What would you rate the way this looks on a RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion) scale from 1-10? 1 being wicked easy and 10 being max effort!

For Comp standard lifts RPE can be easily used as an inverse RIR system for athlete autoregulation. However - when programming variations the script flips a bit, and I end up preferring to use RPE as an “easy”, “medium”, “hard” scale. The reason behind this is most variations put an absolutely load limiting constraint on the lifter. Tempo bench with a longer eccentric loading time, long pause for higher stability cost, or feet up with less overall force production. Due to this, a true RPE 6 (4 RIR) for a tempo bench would be so light that it may be an insignificant intensity for the athlete. What are y’all’s thoughts? Interested in coaching or 1-1 mentorship?
