It shapes your thoughts, emotions, and actions. So, if you want to level up in life, you need to upgrade your self-talk. You know how sometimes you want to change something about someone else? 🤔 Well, good luck with that! Changing other people is difficult at best. Unfortunately, other people often have their own ways of doing things. But there’s still something you can do. At a book event recently, I heard a story about a woman who has a difficult relationship with her mom. She said her mom was not very supportive of her, and often directly criticized her. @mikejwatts, a longtime friend, was there that evening and offered some perspective: “Your mom is not going to change. But you can change the relationship with your mom.” 🤯 I’m not entirely sure how Mike envisioned that process, but to me it meant: You can establish boundaries, you can choose how you communicate with your mom (timing, topics of conversation, etc.), you can nurture other relationships that are more supportive, and so on. Remember: You can’t change other people, but you CAN change your relationship with them. 💚 #mentalhealth #reframing #ideas #yearofmentalhealth

It all starts from what’s going on in your mind... The words you use when you speak to yourself are more powerful than you realize. There’s interdisciplinary research spanning clinical psychology, sports performance, cognitive neuroscience, education and positive psychology that all demonstrate that self-talk matters – A LOT. It shapes your thoughts, emotions, and actions. So, if you want to level up in life, you need to pay attention to your self-talk. Start speaking to yourself in a way that ignites your passion, fuels your motivation, and helps you stay focused on your goals. Here are 2 small language tweaks that make a BIG difference: 1️⃣ Say “I GET to” instead of “I have to.” Life is a gift, not a burden. Don’t let the language of obligation drag you down. 2️⃣ Ditch “I should” for “I WILL.” “Should” is loaded with guilt and shame.
