👉3️⃣ Three things I keep in mind to reinforce loose leash walking by my side. The goal isn’t to perfect a “heel” command but to reward walking calmly by my side. 📌 By rewarding eye contact, I am reinforcing “check ins” with my dog. Teaching her to engage with me despite all the natural distractions we face on our walks. 📌 Your dog doesn’t always need the entire 6 foot leash during walks. Shortening the leash to about half the length helps to teach your dog that reaching the end of the leash is a boundary. With practice and proper reinforcement, you will be able to use the full length of the leash and your dog will have learned to walk by your side. 📌 Finding the right walking equipment for your dog is super important for a comfortable walk. Gentle leaders, front clip harnesses, and dual clip harnesses are great options for dogs that ignore leash pressure and tend to pull. These tips are what work best for my dog at the moment.
