For some reason this one got me even more emotional than normal. I think its cause I was so dead at the end and I always forget how easy it seems for like 18 miles and then it goes from "oh I got this" to "wtf oh shit dear lord let's hang on for dear life". Maybe it was the fact that my mom ran with me at mile 22 when she never runs a day in her life, or my grandma who came from Brazil to watch me and looked like a little kid. Let’s run 20 miles training for the NYC marathon as a midsize, slow runner, 23 weeks pregnant. This is my 4th marathon training block and the first time I successfully made it over 17 miles. I would get in my head and thankfully I made it over the finish line each time. But this marathon feel different. I’m slower, but stronger in a way. Peak week is done, we did it! We are a special breed 🤣 How do you have time to run with 5 kids and still get time with your husband? ✨ I don’t watch tv ✨ times with friends either involve the kids or involve running ✨ I have screen limits set on my phone (and ultimately have no phone time from 4pm-8pm) ✨ I work from home and homeschool which keeps me busy but also allows a lot of time with my kids ✨ I’m diligent about my sleep/wake cycle routine ✨ my “fun” and “me time” is running ✨ hubs and I are pretty independent- we focus on quality over quantity when it comes to time together and a lot of our time together includes the kids ✨ the end of my run coincides with before he leaves for work and we take time to have coffee together most mornings ✨ I cut out a lot of fluff- I have my priorities and I stick to those and have learned the power of protecting peace and saying “no”. At the end of the day, none of us ever have the same 24 hours in a day. And as a mom, you don’t even get to decide how to spend all 24. But you can usually find 1 or 2. But it does take prioritizing and choosing running over something else. There’s also an element of protecting energy, and my energy, more so than my time, runs thin. So, I’m currently marathon training on 4 days a week and rocking lower mileage than a lot, but the best thing I’ve done as a mom and runner is not compare my journey and remain in a balance between motherhood, marathoning and marriage that works for me 🥰. And PS. It changes during seasons 😘
