The James Webb Space Telescope has captured a beautiful juxtaposition of the nearby protostellar outflow known as Herbig-Haro 49/50 with a perfectly positioned, more distant spiral galaxy. Due to the close proximity of this Herbig-Haro object to the Earth, this new composite infrared image of the outflow from a young star allows researchers to examine details on small spatial scales like never before. With Webb, we can better understand how the jet activity associated with the formation of young stars can affect their surrounding environment. • Credits: NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI Music: Clemens Ruh - Yesterday Has Yet To Come #HerbigHaro #JamesWebb #JWST #WebbSeesFarther

This visualization reveals the stars of the Gemini constellation in three dimensions. Watch as the familiar pattern on the sky distorts into a whole new perspective. The sequence begins with a night sky view, and the constellations Orion and Taurus just above the horizon. As the camera pans up, the constellation Gemini (The Twins) takes center stage with its brightest stars, Castor and Pollux, at the top. The constellation Auriga can be found in the lower right, with its bright stars forming a pentagon shape. Above and a bit left of Gemini, the Beehive Cluster, in the constellation Cancer, is an open star cluster containing over 1,000 stars. As the view begins to orbit, and the constellation distorts into 3D space, Castor and Pollux reveal themselves as the closest stars. Approaching a sideways view, multiple star clusters pass below the right side of the constellation, including the Hyades cluster and the Pleiades (both in Taurus). The dark cloud of dust in that region is the Taurus Molecular Cloud, a star-forming region 430 light-years from the Sun. The two most distant stars in the Gemini constellation are Mekbuda and Mebsuta, at 1,200 light-years and 900 light-years from the Sun, respectively. Note that the Beehive Cluster remains visible above the constellation during the entire spin. How is Gravity like Nature's Magnifying Glass - via @nasagoddard Credits: L. Hustak (STScI) Video transcript: To find out what the universe was like in the beginning we need to study the most distant galaxies whose light has been traveling to us for billions of years. But the farther away a galaxy is the fainter it appears that makes distant galaxies very hard to see even for the most powerful telescopes because they can only collect so much light. Fortunately nature can provide a helping hand! According to Einstein the gravity of massive objects can be so intense that it can warp the fabric of space-time. Light which normally travels in a straight line through space can show us where this distortion occurs. A very massive object will warp space and bend the path of the light. In a sense warped space acts like a magnifying glass -  a magnifying glass collects and bends light making a light bulb for example appear bigger and brighter - warped space can do the same thing to light from a galaxy. So what acts like the biggest magnifying glass in space: galaxy clusters! Galaxy Clusters are the most massive things in the universe with the most gravity. When light from a very distant galaxy passes through a cluster it is amplified and distorted with the cluster acting like an imperfect magnifying glass. Light that would have gone in other directions gets bent toward our telescope that lets us see the very distant galaxy in more detail. This effect is called gravitational lensing and without this natural boost from gravity it would be impossible for our telescopes to see far away enough in space and time to study galaxies in the early universe. #space #astronomy #Astrophysics #gravity #gravitationallensing #allaroundscience

Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope Completed: Timelapse View | NASA Goddard FriendsofNASA.org | Full Article: https://lnkd.in/gjK83Aca NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is now fully assembled following the integration of its two major segments on November 25, 2025, at the agency’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. The mission is slated to launch by May 2027, but the team is on track for launch as early as fall 2026. “Completing the Roman observatory brings us to a defining moment for the agency,” said NASA Associate Administrator Amit Kshatriya. “Transformative science depends on disciplined engineering, and this team has delivered—piece by piece, test by test—an observatory that will expand our understanding of the universe. As Roman moves into its final stage of testing following integration, we are focused on executing with precision and preparing for a successful launch on behalf of the global scientific community.” After final testing, Roman will move to the launch site at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida for launch preparations in summer 2026. Roman is slated to launch by May 2027, but the team is on track for launch as early as fall 2026. A SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket will send the observatory to its final destination a million miles from Earth. “With Roman’s construction complete, we are poised at the brink of unfathomable scientific discovery,” said Julie McEnery, Roman’s senior project scientist at NASA Goddard. “In the mission’s first five years, it’s expected to unveil more than 100,000 distant worlds, hundreds of millions of stars, and billions of galaxies. We stand to learn a tremendous amount of new information about the universe very rapidly after Roman launches.” Credit: NASA Goddard Sophia Roberts Time: 23 seconds Date: Dec. 4, 2025 #NASA #Space #Astronomy #Science #NASARoman #RomanSpaceTelescope #NancyGraceRoman #Exoplanets #Planets #SolarSystem #Stars #MilkyWayGalaxy #Galaxies #BlackHoles #Cosmos #Universe #SpaceTelescopes #GSFC #STScI #UnitedStates #Infographics #STEM #Education #HD #Video

This NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope image of the planetary nebula NGC 6072 may resemble a splatter of paint 🎨 at first glance. However, it contains evidence of complex mechanisms shaping the scene. A planetary nebula is the expanding shell of glowing gas expelled by a dying star. NGC 6072 is an unusual example, with several different outflows jetting out from the centre and creating a disc, and concentric rings expanding outwards. These features could be caused by the presence of two stars at the centre of the nebula! ⭐⭐ 📷 @nasa , @europeanspaceagency , @canadianspaceagency , STScI, N.
