THIs the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk worth visiting? 🎢🌊
As someone who grew up in Santa Cruz, I’ve been going to the Boardwalk for decades—here’s my honest take.
✨ Pros:
✅ It’s California’s oldest amusement park and literally right on the sand. You can ride the historic Giant Dipper 🎠 and then walk straight into the ocean.
✅ 40+ rides, mini golf, arcade, laser tag, AND a bowling alley just across the street—plenty to fill a whole day.
✅ Free to enter! You only pay for rides, so it’s easy to just stroll, people-watch, or hang at the beach without spending a dime.
⚠️ Cons:
⛔️ Ride wristbands are pricey — around $80 — but buying online the night before saves $15.
⛔️ Parking near the Boardwalk can be $$$ (and street parking fills up fast). If you only plan to go to the Boardwalk for a few hours, DO NOT use the official paid parking lot. It costs $25 regardless of how long you park there vs $2.25 per hour for metered street parking.
⛔️ Food = your standard fair food (overpriced and just okay). BYO lunch or grab food in nearby downtown Santa Cruz instead (a sandwich from Zoccoli’s would be perfect). That said, some of the sweet treats are nostalgic favorites, like Marini’s saltwater taffy or Dip n’ Dots, and can be worth the splurge.
⛔️ Summer weekends = crowds. If that’s when you’re visiting, go when rides open, beach it midday, and come back in the evening when it’s a little calmer.
💡 Extra Tips:
- For cheaper parking, try the side streets a few blocks away or use the downtown SC parking garages and take the Santa Cruzer shuttler for $1.
- There’s often entertainment (magicians, live music, DJs) during summer evenings, and free movie nights on Fridays!
- The Giant Dipper and the Looff Carousel are both National Historic Landmarks — don’t skip them.
🌟Verdict? For me, yes! 🙌 It’s worth it for the history, ocean views, and nostalgic atmosphere. I can’t wait to bring my 6-month-old here for the first time — it was such a big part of my childhood.

1. Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park : Walk under the tall redwoods . This place is good to learn about redwoods trees, you can go outside and walk through the trails.
2. Mystery Spot: A unique place with gravitational anomaly and fun tour for the family.
3. Walton Lighthouse : This is a picturesque lighthouse located at the tip of the Santa Cruz Small Craft Harbor. U can take the ferry to this lighthouse . Isn’t it fun ?
4. Natural Bridges State Beach : A unique beach with stunning rock formations with lots of birds.
5. Roaring Camp Railroad : Board a historic steam train for a 1-hour ride through the Santa Cruz mountains from Felton’s Roaring Camp, and go deep into redwood groves and California’s past.
6. Capitola beach : Absolutely charming city with Colorful buildings and European vibes.
7. Shark fin Cove Beach : One of the prettiest beach in California with cool rock formations.
8. Santa Cruz Broadwalk :The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is an oceanfront amusement park in Santa Cruz, California.

Here are our family’s top things to do when visiting Santa Cruz:
🎢Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk (check out their summer discount nights where your can get unlimited rides after 6pm for only $24.95 + tax)
🌲Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park (there are 2 sections of this park and both are amazing, we just discovered the Fall Creek Unit of the park where you can enjoy both redwoods and a beautiful creek)
🐋Seymour Marine Discovery Center (aquarium, touch tanks, indoor and outdoor exhibits! The volunteers there are so engaging with the kids and they learned so much about conserving the ocean and marine life)
⛱️Capitola Beach (small beach town next to Santa Cruz with iconic colorful houses and great beach access)
🚂Roaring Camp Railroads (enjoy a ride on a historical steam train through the redwoods!)
