Data on the birds decline was gathered from the 2025 State of the Birds Report. On April 9th, 2025, the president signed an executive order titled, “Zero-Based Regulatory Budgeting to Unleash American Energy,” which mandates that several federal agencies assign expiration dates to existing regulations including some that protect bird species. Unless these regulations are reviewed and extended they will expire in one year after the effective date of the sunset rule. New regulations must include sunset dates that do not exceed 5 years. This directly impacts (but is not limited to): 1. Migratory Bird Treaty Act: Protects over 1,000 bird species by prohibiting unauthorized “take.” 2. Endangered Species Act: Safeguards species at risk of extinction. 3. Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act: Protects Bald and Golden Eagles specifically. 4. National Environmental Policy Act: Requires environmental assessments for projects that could impact wildlife habitats. If we were already losing the birds with these regulations in place, I can’t imagine what will happen if the protections are discarded. If our leaders will not step up and save the birds we must stand up, speak out, and SAVE THE BIRDS. Use #savethebirds to share why birds are important to YOU!!

One of my friends called me yesterday and asked if I needed a project. He found 2 wild babies with no mother at his work place. He said stray cats were everywhere and they wouldn't last a day 😔 How could I say no. I was so worried they wouldn't survive but I put them in one of our brooders, added a couple baby serama to show them the ropes and walla.... they're eating and drinking like a champ. They even go under the brooder heat plate to warm up. One of the serama chicks has taught them to drink from the nipple drinker already. So smart! Lucky I have live worms for our lizards, they love those but also like white fish and tuna cat pate....they're even eating the chick feed! Kitty and I will grow them out til they're ready to be released back to the wild. Guess what these lil cuties are 😊 PLEASE DONT TRY THIS WITHOUT MUCH EXPERIENCE BROODING BIRDS.
