Even though we have past peak season for white shark activity along the Cape Cod coast, it is important to note that white sharks are still in the area. Thank you to R. A Trans-Tasman journey for yet another one of our tagged white sharks🦈🌊 This male white shark (White Shark 916 in the SharkSmart app) was captured as a juvenile on a SMART Drumline and received an acoustic tag on 30 September 2020 at Evans Head, NSW. At the time of capture, the shark’s total length was 263cm. After tagging, it was detected by the South West Rocks and Port Macquarie Tagged Shark Listening Stations during October and November 2020. It then pinged at Old Bar on 15 November 2020... and then silence... Fast forward nearly 5 years, and he’s now a ~370cm long subadult shark! In April 2025, this shark was sighted at Edwards Island, New Zealand, a massive trans-Tasman journey. He resided around the island through March, April and May, when he was then satellite tagged by Dr Riley Elliott as part of the Great White Project NZ —  He’s now called Odin by the Kiwis and his epic travels are now trackable in real-time via the Great White App 🛰️📱 (visit it at www.sustainableoceansociety.co.nz or download it from the App Store) 📍 First Tag location: Evans Head, NSW, September 2020 📍 Latest detection: Edwards Island, NZ, April 2025 📏 Then: 2.63m | Now: 3.7m #OdinTheShark #WhiteShark #SharkTracking #NSWSharkSmart #GreatWhiteApp #EdwardsIsland #WhiteShark #EvansHead #SharkResearch #rileyelliot #paulbutcher @thelifeofrileynz

Can you lasso a shark? Turns out, yes—and it’s actually helping marine scientists! On a recent expedition to the Azores, we caught up with researchers attaching transmitters to blue sharks without harming them. Enter champion freediver Fred Buyle (@fredbuyle) who pulled off a daring, painless lasso technique that could revolutionize shark tracking. Learn more about the incredible ways scientists are studying the ocean’s most mysterious creatures. Follow OceanX and dive deeper with us! #OceanX #Sharks #Science #Freediving #MarineResearch

🌊 Shark Tracking Mission: Satellite Tag Recovery 🦈 Our team went on a mission to recover a satellite tag, with @snsm.sxm , that detached from a tagged shark. This crucial device has been collecting valuable location data, helping us better understand shark movements and behaviors. 🎯📡 @yachtaidglobal @oceanbluetree 🎥 Filmed and edited by @floriannes_travels , who has been documenting our journey for weeks, this footage is part of a larger storytelling effort. The ultimate goal? A full documentary tracing years of research, conservation efforts, and groundbreaking discoveries. These multimedia materials will be key in raising awareness—whether at public conferences, school presentations, or professional training sessions. Stay tuned for more insights into the depths of our work! 🌍💙 #SharkResearch #Conservation #OceanScience #SatelliteTag #MarineBiology #SharkTracking

WHEN WINTER HITS, SHARKS MOVE. 🦈❄️ It’s freezing across the US East Coast — and even Florida saw snow ❄️🌴… and white shark CAYO felt it too. As a powerful nor’easter pushed through with icy air and strong winds, CAYO made a big move. Named by longtime partner @yeti , CAYO (a 10’3” juvenile female) was northeast of Cape Hatteras on January 30. Around the height of the storm, she shifted south — with her latest ping showing her now well below Cape Lookout. That’s 153 miles in just 2.5 days — about 60 miles per day. We can’t say for certain, but it appears CAYO may have been moving toward more suitable conditions as colder temperatures set in — much like many of us seeking warmer weather this week. CAYO was tagged by @tancookfieldstation in collaboration with OCEARCH, and her journey is helping scientists better understand how young white sharks respond to changing ocean conditions in real time. Do you think extreme winter weather influences where sharks travel? A 12–15 foot great white shark gliding calmly past docked boats — not hunting, not attacking, just patrolling its coastal territory 🦈⚓ AI footage highlights the kind of non-aggressive foraging behavior marine scientists are increasingly documenting. Recent 2025–2026 OCEARCH tracking has shown similar patterns, from a 14-foot shark near Santa Monica Pier to a 13-footer circling boats in Australia. A March 2025 Frontiers in Marine Science study found most tagged white sharks prefer shallow waters under 50 meters, suggesting marina sightings are often linked to prey abundance and warming oceans — not human provocation 🌊🌍 #GreatWhiteShark #MarineLife #OceanScience #OCEARCH #SharkTracking #CoastalWaters #MarineBiology #OceanFacts #WildlifeReels #NatureDocumentary #SharkEncounter #ClimateImpact #SeaLife #ViralNature #AIGenerated #AIContent #USA #America #US

🎬 Also: Ton an, reinschauen – und bald kommt schon Part 3!
