If you’re learning Spanish or speak Spanish you’ve probably heard this debate. I have to call out my fellow Americans here 🙈 I know being “American” feels like an important part of our identity, but if we want to communicate clearly, especially in a language that is not ours, we have to be open to the fact that the world is much bigger than our own experiences. #Estadounidense #americano #learnspanish #español

Stop calling everything "la calle"! 🛣️🌆 If you’re still using "la calle" to describe every path, road, or avenue, you’re missing out on the richness of the Spanish language! To reach a C2 level, you need to be specific about where you are walking or driving. Using precise terms for different types of roads shows a high command of Spanish and helps you give better directions like a local. In this video, we upgrade your vocabulary from A2 to C2: 🏙️ La avenida – The avenue 🛤️ La autopista – The highway 🏘️ El callejón sin salida – The dead-end street / cul-de-sac 🏙️ El boulevard – The boulevard 🌿 El sendero – The path / trail 🧱 El pasaje – The passage / alleyway Mastering these nuances is what separates a student from a true Spanish speaker. 🚀 👉 Ready to navigate Spanish like a pro? Follow @learnspanishwithfer for your daily C2 vocabulary upgrades! Which of these do you live on: an "avenida" or a "calle"? @psimonmyway
I am no Spanish teacher but I am surely a Latina inside. I do not speak any other language to my son since he was born (sometimes the occasional Hebrew and Brazilian Portuguese come out). Now this Spanish language extends to my son's playgroup, who are Filipino-Americans. I do not teach them. I simply speak it without imposing it to them. Most of the time, I sing. Kids love adults who sing, especially if it's their primary caregiver. I was already 25 years old when I learned Spanish and I also leaned into songs for learning. I did not go to a Spanish language lesson because I know I am someone who doesn't learn in a classroom setting. I prefer the in-person action and application! Some people warn me that it might be a bit too much that I speak to my son in several languages at an early age (plus my husband's Swiss German). They said it might be confusing. But what most people don't know is that, scientifically, in the first 5 years of life, children's brains are incredibly flexible. This means they can form neural connections quickly making language acquisition easier compared to adults. Kids also have the extraordinary ability to notice and absorb patterns in speech. They don't consciously study grammar rules but they naturally pick up tones and sounds by listening. It's fascinating, isn't it? Often, our society treats kids under age 5 as helpless beings and we don't teach them things. We just give them 10,000 toys that they don't even want to play with. When in fact, this age window is when we should be bombarding them with new learnings and experiences (such as language). However, the challenge in this age is that the child won't necessarily learn to speak another language if the primary caregiver is not speaking it #Spanish #languagelearning #boymama #momlife #mommy #languageforkids #spanishforkids

Dear Gentle English Learners I do wish to state a REMINDER to all of those among you who seem to forget a rather crucial fact: English DOES indeed have a past tense.” This author encounters many advanced English learners who, when asked about something they did last week, or last month, or last year, seem to... FORGET verbal times and start slipping back into the present tense like a debutante fainting at a ball. Now, it CANNOT be due to the complications of English verbal conjugation - for truly, the Spanish language is FAR more complicated in that regard. Perhaps it is laziness? Forgetfulness? One cannot say for certain. It is true that learning irregular verbs has proven to be tricky. But for regular verbs? One must NOT forget to pronounce that -T, or -D, or -ED sound at the end. For simply without it... there IS no past. There is ONLY present. And although one must live in the moment... we DO wish to be able to discern between something that happened from something that happens. Yours truly Lady Grammarton
