We’ve lived in Texas our whole lives, so these are coming straight from locals who’ve actually explored the state beyond the big cities 👇🏼 🤠 Texas is WAY more diverse than people expect… and these spots prove it. 🏜️ Palo Duro Canyon State Park aka the “Grand Canyon of Texas.” 👉 Hike Lighthouse Trail, catch sunrise over the red rock cliffs, or ride horseback through the canyon. It’s only about 30 minutes from Amarillo and completely underrated. ☀️ Monahans Sandhills State Park - yes, real sand dunes in Texas. Rent a sand disk and slide down the dunes, stay for sunset when the sand turns golden, and feel like you somehow landed in the Sahara. ⛰️Chalk Bluff Park is one of those hidden gems along the Frio River. Swim, float, camp under the trees, or just unplug for the weekend. It’s quieter than the big name river spots and feels like old school Texas summer. 🏡 Fredericksburg brings the charm. German heritage, cute Main Street shops, wineries, wildflower season, and Enchanted Rock nearby if you want a hike with views. It’s the perfect weekend getaway from Austin or San Antonio. 🐂 And of course… Fort Worth Stockyards. Daily cattle drive, rodeo vibes, western shops, and live country music. It’s the Texas experience people picture… and yes, it’s actually worth it 🤩 🍖We had to end it properly at Terry Black’s BBQ because you cannot leave Texas without brisket. Advanced reservations are required. 📍Inks Lake State Park Paddle boats, kayaks, and stand-up paddle boards are all available for rent. For hiking, check out Devil’s Waterhole, it’s an easy 1.7 mile loop with amazing views and rock formations. 📍Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge Balcones offers opportunities to hike, observe wildlife, and immerse yourself in nature! Definitely catch the sunset at the Sunset Deck which is at the Warbler Vista Trailhead! 📍Turkey Bend Recreation Area Located on the shores of Lake Travis, this area is a place for outdoor activities like picnicking, fishing, hiking, horse back riding, and swimming. Watching the sunrise here can’t be missed! 📍Pace Bend Park Pace Bend Park is popular for camping on the cliffs overlooking Lake Travis. These dramatic cliffs blew us away! We set up a picnic here and enjoyed the stunning views! 📍Krause Springs The property features a series of 32 spring-fed pools, along with lush gardens and towering cypress trees.
