VIRespectfully… i didn’t build this life to escape work.

AUMy husband and I are a team and we both contribute to our family, just in different ways. Here are things we’ve chosen to live without so I can be home with our kids:
• Big trips & vacations
I have a soul that loves travel and someday I want to see the whole world. But in this season, on one income, we stay close to home.
• Eating out
We cook almost everything at home. Restaurants are occasional, not routine.
• Hair, nails, massages, etc.
Rare in this season. It’s DIY and messy buns.
• New clothes
I thrift most of mine and the kids’ clothes. If I truly can’t find it secondhand (or it’s socks and underwear), we’ll buy new — but that’s the exception.
• Lots of paid activities & sports teams
We don’t sign up for everything. Some seasons we choose 1–2 things. Some seasons we choose none. Lots of backyard afternoons, library days, and free community fun.
• New cars
There was a season recently when we chose to be a bike family for a while until we could buy a car without going into debt. Honestly we loved it. We have one car now but still choose to ride our cargo bikes half the time for running around town.
There are more but those are the core things. Even with careful budgeting, it’s still really tight some months. But to us? It’s worth it.
